Dedication and Memoriam Ron Shiffler The staff of the 1961 Hudsonian wishes to dedicate this book to the memory of our friend and classmate, Ron Shiffler. Ron, a member of the class of 1961, lost his life June 4, I960. He was born in Hudson on April 8, 1943, and attended Hudson schools. While Ron had a deep interest in horses and ponies, music was his life. He played first cor- onet in our high school band and often acted as conductor of the band. He was a member of a local barber shop quartet, and he sang in the Methodist Church choir. Ron had won a scholar- ship to Interlochen National Music Camp, which he would have attended in the summer of I960. Ron will always be remembered in our school and in our community for his fine musical talent. Ron’s talent was truly a gift from God, and Ron devoted his life to the perfection of this gift.

A d m i n i s School Walter Graves-secretary, Preston Town- send-vice president, Russel Leffingwell- treasurer, Edward Engle-president IT IS MORE BLESSED” Centuries before Christ gave the world the Golden Rule”, Plato said, The strength of a democracy is judged by the quality of the services rendered by its citizens.” Both of these thoughts must be most seriously considered by you who take your place in the adult community. Service to your fellow man and service to your country are extremely important today when many seem to feel that the quality of services rendered by government to citizens indicates the strength of a democracy. Our democratic society will grow to new heights of spirit- ual and economic strength and quality as you and your fellow graduates throughout the country take up the torch of service to God and to mankind and only as all of us adopt the philos- ophy that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Joseph S. Zapytowski Superintendent We wish to express our thanks to the Board of Education for the fine work they have done. Their task is not always an easy one. They spend many hours making decisions for the betterment of our futures. Mrs. Juanita Welch Secretary
