We have four language teachers on our staff. Mr. Boarst, Miss O'Conner and Mrs. Naylor in the Senior High Department. Mr. Brown in the Junior High Department. Mr. Boarst has taught three years. He came here the last semester of last year. He attended Michigan State College and the University of Michigan, and achieved a B.A. Degree and his M.A. Degree. He chose teaching because he liked literature and writing. His recreation after school hours are reading, dancing and talking. His hobby and spec- ial interest is music. He was our advisor on our Annual staff. Miss O'Conner has taught only one year and that was here in Hudson. She attended Michigan State College and attained a B.A. Degree. Recreation after school is making plans and lessons. Her hobbies are Dixieland music, Beethoven and books. Miss O'Connor's pet peeve is hillbilly music and her sixth hour class. Her special interests are anything and everything—folklore music, literature and customs. Miss O'Connor teaches freshman and sophomore English. Mrs. Naylor has taught five and one-half years. This is her first year at Hudson. She teaches English, Spanish and Latin, and Latin is her favorite. She attended the Univer- sity of Illinois and attained an A.B. Degree. She chose teaching because she wanted to teach Latin from the first day she took it. Her recreation after school hours is dreaming about Austria. Her hobby is raising German Shepherd dogs and her pet peeve is students who ask What page? after she has given the page number. Her special interests are learning to speak foreign languages and traveling. Mr. Brown has taught five years. He came to Hudson in 1950 to start his teaching career. He teaches seventh and eighth grade English and has taught Social Studies, but is not teaching this subject this year. He attended college at Adrian and the University of Michigan and holds a M.A. and an A. B. Degree. He chose teaching because he en- joys association with youth, other teachers, school officials and because he enjoys help- ing people learn. His recreation after school hours are sleeping, reading and fishing. His hobby is taking color slides. Mr. Brown's special interests are church activities and traveling. 8

We have three teachers in our Science Department. Mr. Ferris and Mr. Bishop in the Senior High and Mr. Barshney in the Junior High. Mr. Ferris has taught two years, both of which have been in Hudson. He attended Michigan State College where he received a B.S. Degree. He says he chose teaching because it was the lesser of two evils. His recreation after school hours are correcting papers and attending conference meetings. Mr. Ferris' hobby is playing the drums. His special interests are his family, two boys and a girl. Mr. Ferris teaches Agricul- ture and Biology. He enjoys Biology the most. Mr. Bishop has taught five years and began his career in Hudson. He teaches Chemistry, Physics and Algebra, and these are his special interests. He attended Albion and Michigan State Colleges and attained a B.A. Degree. He chose teaching because he likes people. Mr. Bishop's recreation is sleeping. He says he hasn't any hobbies or pet peeves. He doesn't have any one subject that he likes best, as he en- joys them all. Mr. Barshney has taught fifteen years. He attended Adrian and Michigan State College and received a B.S. Degree. Mr. Barshney chose teaching as a profession be- cause he likes to work with young people. His recreation and hobby is coaching Junior High teams, and repairing radio and television sets and raising registered cattle. His pet peeve is people that stick their nose into other people's business. Mr. Barshney is married and has a little girl. He teaches Science and Physical Education, and enjoys them both. 7

Included in the vocational arts department of Hudson High School are: Mr. West- gate, Miss Clark, and Mr. Holtz. Mr. Westgate has been teaching for 14 years, 11 of which have been spent in Hudson. Mr. Westgate teaches instrumental music and high school vocal music. He is also the director of the High School Band. He holds an A.B. Degree from Adrian College. He chose the teaching vocation because he enjoys working with young people. He enjoys sports after school hours and his hobby is collecting music. His special interest is work- ing with church choral groups. Miss Clark has been teaching in the Home Economics Department for 2y years. She earned her B.S. Degree at Hillsdale College and has done graduate work at Michigan Statfc and Michigan State Normal College. Also she has had special courses in Red Cross Home Nursing and Flower Arrangement. Miss Clark chose teaching as a vocation be- cause her mother and sister were teachers, and she did have to earn a living. After school hours she enjoys gardening, knitting, and raising African Violets. Her pet peeve is finding almost but-not quite parking space. Miss Clark enjoys church, club work, and her Home Ec. classes in school. Mr. Holtz has been teaching manual arts m Hudson for over 18 years. He holds a B.S. Degree from Michigan State Normal College and has done Post Graduate work at Michigan State. He first became interested in teaching because many of his friends were interested. After school hours he enjoys reading, television, hunting, and fishing. His pet peeve is people who want something for nothing. Mr. Holtz enjoys farming, that is his Christmas tree plantation. He enjoys teaching industrial arts. 9
