The Academy was the first building to occupy the present school site, and the third to, be used as a school building. lt followed the Throneburg School and was built shortly before T900 by Northern ladies -Mrs. Sarah Rand, Miss Carrie Rand, and a Mrs. Tuttle. The first floor was used for the classrooms and theauditorium, the second, as living quarters for the boarding students and the teachers. The school served, roughly, the district it does at present. The en- tire course of study was equivalent to the completion of the eighth grade today. One graduated when he was able to score 98 on all the subiects.
