Uf Thlngs To Come The nxght of May 31 1963 was an rmportant one to those who were graduates of 1955 We were havrng a class unxon All former dassmates were mvlted and thns was to the fxrst txme we had all been together smce our graduatxon long years ago The frrst to arrxve was Bertha Sue Hall a well known nurse at the Caldwell Memornal Hosprtal rn Lenoxr Then came Professor Johnny Austm who rs known quxte well rn the fxeld of educatlon He rs an Englxsh professor at one of the large unlversxnes Next to arrrve was Mae Belle Wxnkler now married to a Navy Admxral At the entrance she met Maxxne Coffey a dental technncran who IS now workrng tn a large dental offrce rn Los Angeles Calxfornra joan Correll who rs now marrxed to the sole owner of the Marshall Hosxery Mrll and Martha Warllck who IS marrred to the manager of the Coffey Pamt Co came rn lookrng qunte happy Donald Beane Jrmmy Drum and Wade Duncan came next They have a well known band and therr star sxnger was none other than Gall Bolrck a talented smger and tap dancer Dons Smxth rs maknng the band more popular wrth her beaunful pnano playmg I was greatly pleased that Katherrne Prestwood Dale johnson and James McG1nn1s made such a specral effort to be wrth us srnce they are studymg art rn far away places Then arrnved two of the most promxnent cxtxzens of Hudson Margre Clarke who rs now Spanrsh teacher at the Hudson High mt-ure company Bull Correll walked rn stnll dnctaung to hrs secretary stenogra pher and bookkeeper josephrne Hartley She seems to be a ltttle overworked When the next group entered I thought the whole Wash nngton Redskrn Squad had come Fnrst was J1mmy Smxth the coach whom everyone rs so proud of He was followed by Bobby Lxngle Captaxn of the team and hrs wxfe Carolyn Keaton then C W Barlow Co-Captarn and wxfe Frances Hartley Jrmmy Cannon John Hall Jimmy Mxller were last but not least They are sull confrrmed bachelors Bessxe Smrth and Lots Herman came rn and I found that they have earned mnllxons of dollars as co-managers of a new drug store rn Hudson As I walked among my guests I spotted a few gxrls standrng near the entrance talkrng It seems as nf Joyce Cannon Wxllne Dean Hall Matue McCall Prestus Icatd and Joanne Jarvrs can t realxze just what the Class of 53 has accomphshed Then Maryean Lnnk made her great entrance Her latest utle rs that of Mrs Marpean was followed by Jacquelnne Setzer another recent Mrs and Janet Bolhnger the local home agent. Another group of our marrred frxends arrrved Ftrst Ray Bumgarner and Georgre McCall who are both promtnent rn the theatre Next were Carney Benfxeld and Lons Champron Carney xs a star reporter for the New York Tnbune Wrnnfred Moore has made a name for herself as treasurer of the Amencan Trust Assocxauon Mzss Moore has held th posnnon sxnce graduauon from Mars Hrll College several years 380 Jeraldme Staley IS well known rn the South for the Cham pronshrp basketball team of Appalachxan wluch Jerry has coached for the past years Barbara Colvard IS now happrly marrled She and her hus band lxve rn Balnmore where he plays pro basketball It seems as lf a group of grrls rs domlnatxng one corner Mr Ray Maltba IS stall good at throwing out charm LaVerne Smxth Brllne joe joplm and Norma Jean Ogle are qurte taken rn by the tales of hrs adventures as a crvxl engtneer I was glad that Metm Lee Harrrs could be wrth us Mrss Harrrs has just arrived from China where she rs a mrssronary She was accompanred by Ruth Trxplett who IS studyrng vonce and prano Joyce Trnplett and Betty Herman took tune out from therr glamorous lxfe to attend thrs celebratnon Mrsses Trrplett and Herman are well known models m New York They came because they heard that Donald Honeycutt and Jack St John were gomg to be here and that they stxll weren t marrxed Tommy Smith ca.me ln followed by Justxna Davrs and Betty Grrffrn We learned Tommy rs doxng quxte well as manager of the Thrnft Food Center Kay Snrpes arrived next wxth her famous brother Dwight Kay 15 busrness manager for her brother who rs a stunt man for Paramount Studxos of Hollywood Then Joan Walker and Wxlla Dean Snmrnons came ln These two are teachrng Drxvers Educatton at Hudson Hxgh and Gramte Falls Hxgh respecuvely I was honored by the presence of Elxzabeth Smrth and Shrrley show The class of 53 rs a very farthful audrence for this pro- gram and seems to be proud of these ladres accomplrshments Ted Sxmmons rs doxng a great job as the head coach at Hudson Hrgh Ted rs a confxrmed bachelor but Louxse Mxller seems to be rnakmg headway wrth htm tonlght Several members of our class that are married came wrthout therr husbands These are Callxe Trxplett Betty Woods juanrta Grrffm and Evelyn Flowers The next to arrxve were Mary Frances and Wrlla Dean Crump The two Mxsses Crump are prxvate secretaries at the Broyhrll Furmture Co rn Lenoxr Another one of our marned couples has amved Frances McLean and Robert Clxne these two own a beauuful ranch rn the Bng Bend Country of Texas A D Bumgarner who IS the lxghtrng manager for a tele vxsron company IS able to attend thrs party since hes spendrng a few days at home Mary Setzer and Coleen Hartley have just made therr entrance They are employed rn a local mercannle establxshment wluch rs under the management of jearlrne Hall Another one of our teacher fnends has arrrved He rs J C Wood who rs teachrng physlcs to hxgh school students The remammg members of the class arrwed Dale Hart Clarence and Bully Joe Beane who are domg well tn the truckxng busnness Now the group ns complete Each ns a success nn hrs own rrght 'Hudson Hugh School has had no cause to hang xts head ln shame because of any one of the members of the Class of 53 . , , , , au . . . - , . . - . .. .. . re- . . . . ten . . , . , , , , . 1 . . . , . , Q , , , . . , . . . , . , . .
