His valet backs him as well as he can, though he knows it's wrong. It woula be poor tact to tell his rich uncle, who has planned to marry him off to his ward, that a school boy infatuation for an older woman led to marriage. The step-daughter, older than Leon, persistantly tags after him, annoying him by calling him HPapaU In the meantime, Leon has fallen in love with a girl though he has her name mixed up with that of her friend. After many complications Leon realizes the girl is Carolyn, his unc1e's ward, ana Babe ana the Colonel become partners to make a happy ending.

H. Evans. Juuging teams represent the club at Cattle Congress in Waterloo and at Veisha at Iowa State College. They also attenu the Vinton Grain Juaging Contest and have brought back many trophies and awaros. The present Future Farmer officers are: James Kerr, President, Tom Kerr, Vice President, Le Roy Degener, Secretaryg Alvin Yuska, Treasurer, and Lavern Abben, Reporter. These officers combined with the members have han a successful year. The poultry judging team, consisting of Emmett Chapin, Alvin Yuska, ana Dale Plummer, and the livestock management team, consisting of the same boys, took superior awaras a Veisha. The crop judging team and the livestock juuging team won merit awaros at the Same event. l ,lf A M I I

.EJMUFDLANS Three one-act plays were given this year at Jesup, Orange, LaPorte, and Hudson. All three were comedies. . lp WHerbie and the Mumbsy dealing with a younger brother trying to get even with hiS ' sisters who were having their first formal dates, was given at Hudson. 5The Cats Whiskersv was given at Jesup. This dealt with a newly married couple who had trouble with too inquisitive neighbors and a hungry cat. HD L d Be Eravev was presented at Orange and LaPorte. A Young man who had tO0 many lo5Zraf?airs called on his doctor friend to call his girls and tell them he was dead. The one who was most broken-hearted walxed out with the doctor when she found the corpse was a negro janitor. UDEDETI Hhn Old Lrnturkv Garden? an operetta based on presented by the students of the high school BUGS? tor, Miss Messing. the music Ol stephen foster, was the direction or the music instruc- The story takes place in the colonial mansion being honored on her eighteenth birthday. Richard up North, comes to visit. He and Jeanie are instan of Colonel Staunton, where Jeanie is Morgan, Phillit's roommate from college tly attracted to one another. Because Richard is a Northerner, the Colonel orders him to leave. Richard loans Phillip money to, cover a college debt, about which the Colonel Knows nothing. There is a sudden attachment of Widow Hannah who has buried three husbands and Henry Blow, a prospector of the '49 gold rush. The Colonel Presents Jeanie with the family heirloom-a famous ruby brought from India A Hindu magician now entertains the guests and while reading Jeanie's fortune in the crystal ball, snatches the ruby. Richard and Phillip pursue the thier. A garden party is being given in honor of Stelhen Foster M r of hi v . any s compositions are sung. Two music publishers attempt to get Mr. Poster's bermission to publish his works. Joe Buzzard comes to collect his debt from Bhillil. ine U0lOh9l learns of Richards true worth. Richard arrives with the ruby. He had followed the Hindu and l0UHQ him dying. The Hindu sends the ruby to Jeanie with his blessing, which dissolves the curse upon it. In true Southern fashion, a grand finale EDGE the story of the grand old south.
