HERMES 1975 Volume 58 Hudson Falls Central School Hudson Falls. New York Dedication When we walked into your English class during our Freshman year, we were greeted by a teacher with a big grin. Since you are a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, you could identify with our problems in getting through Freshman English (especially ANTIGONE). Your friendliness was contagious then. And now, since you are our Senior Class Advisor, we are still being infected by that friendliness. We, the Class of 1975, dedicate our HERMES to you, Mr. Robert Canterbury 3 A- (I fv_ 7 1 THE DOOR by Miroslav Holub A Go and open the door. Maybe outside there’s a tree, or a wood, a garden, a magic city. Go and open the door. Maybe a dog’s rummaging. Maybe you’ll see a face, or an eye, or a picture of a picture. Go and open the door. If there’s a fog it will clear. Go and open the door. Even if there’s only the darkness of ticking, even if there’s only the hollow wind, even if nothing is there, go and open the door. At least there'll be a draft. Go and open the door. Maybe outside there's a tree, a painting, (Peter Homer) a garden, or a wood. Go and open the door. Maybe a dog’s rummaging. Maybe you'll see a face, 7 Our Junior Prom The many hours of tedious planning, candy selling, and flower making resulted in a beautiful setting for our Junior Prom, held on the night of April 5, 1974. The graceful white dove surrounded by colorful streamers symbolized the theme, We May Never Pass This Way Again. This evening will long be remembered by the Class of 1975. 10 Prom Court Rick Jarvis 1973 King Barb Williams 1973 Queen Matt Daly 1974 King Jill Paris 1974 Queen Michele Dickinson Michael Horrigan Cindey Sherman Tom Underwood Sheryl LaFountain Bill Blake Judy Hogan Gary Moffitt Cindy Champaigne Neil Wright Nancy Wright Ed Mahan Deone Terrio Scott Palmer Betsy Gaulin Ross Cortese Crown Bearers Liane Terrio Danny Andrus 12 We May Never Pass This Way Again. Life, so they say, is but a game and they let it drift away. Love, like the silent dove, should be dying but it's only just begun. Like the twilight in the road up ahead, they don't see just where we're goin’ and all the secrets in the universe, whisper in our ears and all the years will come and go and take us up, always up. We may never pass this way again. Announcer: Joanne Marino Go and open the door. Class Officers President: P. Dodge Vice President: D. Haas Secretary: N. Gleason Treasurer: L. Contestants competed in crazy events and teachers played a crazy league basketball game, Moldies (men) vs. Goldies (women), which highlighted the evening. After skirmishes settled by an unbiased referee, Mr. Canterbury, the Goldies won the game. Outfitted with boxing gloves, the Moldies were outwitted and outplayed by the Goldies. Then the events started. Terry Gorton stuffed himself quicker than anyone else and won the ice cream sand- wich eating contest. Huffing and puffing, contestants blew bub- ble gum and then, with bubble gum on her cheeks, Lulu Wood blew her winning bubble which was almost as big as her head. Then came the paper airplane flying contest. Goose LaSarso won with his tiny jet which beat the other, less conventional models. The Olympics raised $233 which will benefit a child in Uganda. 99 National Honor Society MEMBERS: L. Abodeely, R. Belden, W. Blake, J. Brayton, G. Brennen, P. Bromley, E. Burkhardt, C. During the 1974 season, the Hudson Falls Girls' Varsity Soft- ball team posted an overall record of seven wins and only one loss. Although the Tigress stick- ers were young and inexperi- enced , they nevertheless proved that they could be formidable foes. The Tiger trackmen ran, hur- dled , hopped, skipped and jumped, pole vaulted, and shot putted to a nearly victorious 1974 season. They were second in the Foothills Council League, losing only to Glens Falls by a heartbreaking margin of one point. But the trackmen excelled in the Class B, Section 2, Sectionals by grabbing first place. They also fought for a first place tie in the Glens Falls Relays and won a second place title in the Foothills Council Dual Meets. The Tiger Booters suffered close defeats at the hands of South High and Saratoga. These games were crucial decisions in the Foothills Council League, but several injured Hudson Falls players plus the superior booting of the opposing teams did not add up to a Foothills title for the fighting Tigers. And our gridders quickly proved this theory correct. Although they were defeated in their first game against a tough Catholic Central team by a score of 14-13, the Tigers quickly rallied to a 19-0 vic- tory over Ravena. But a case of fumblitus combined with a string of penalties hindered their attack against Schalmont, as the Sabres blanked them, 6-0. The Tigers then came roaring back to stomp Cohoes in a 14-0 vic- tory . In their first Foothills Council game, our gridders downed a stubborn Saratoga team, 22-14. Because of several clumsy mistakes made by both squads, this game will long be remembered as a contest that lacked artistic quality but made up for it in excitement. This excitement was heightened when the Tigers overpowered Hudson, 14- 0. The climax was reached on the day of the dreaded - anticipated Glens Falls game. If Hudson Falls had man- aged to defeat the Indians, they would have had a good chance to win the Foothills crown. But despite this encour- agement, the Tigers lost, 31-6. Nevertheless, they bounced back to gain a victory over South High, 32-11. The fighting Tigers ended their season with a fierce battle against rugged Gloversville before losing, 18-14. 131 J. V. Although the H.F. Hoopers lacked height, they made up for it in experience and speed, and quickly proved that they were a team to be reckoned with. At midsea- son, the Tigers boasted a perfect 11-0 record, ranking them 13th in New York State. Their first defeat came at the hands of Saratoga, in what is certain to be remembered as one of the greatest basketball games ever played in the north country. Both teams operated at peak performance. The score was tied 18 times and the lead changed hands 26 times, but finally, the luck went against the Tigers, as the Streaks squeaked by to win a victory in overtime. After defeating Gloversville, South High, and Hud- son , their gleaming record was again tarnished by a surprisingly strong Waterford team. However, the next week, Hudson Falls blasted Glens Falls to set the stage for the crucial tilt in the upcoming Saratoga gymnasium. A victory over the powerful Streaks could have given our Hoopers a first place tie for the Foothills crown. But this was not to be, as the Streaks topped the fighting Tigers by a score of 75-69. As the 1975 HERMES goes to press, the Class B Section 2 Sectionals are commencing. We are confident that the Doug Kenyon - coached Tigers will glitter in these games as they did throughout the 1974-1975 season. 136 OVERALL RECORD: 15-3-0 LEAGUE RECORD: 6-2-0 FOOTHILLS COUNCIL: 2nd Place HF 78 Warrensburg---------------------48 97 Hudson--------------------------64 82 Gloversville-------------------79 82 Whitehall-----------------------71 68 South High---------------------47s 64 St. Mary's---------------------45 90 St. Peter's------------------69 ' 80 Waterford-----------------------61 95 Warrensburg---------------------48 84 Whitehall-----------------------59 58 Glens Falls--------------------50° 76 Saratoga-----------------------79 89 Gloversville-------------------73 56 Hudson--------------------------54 92 South High---------------------52 72 Waterford-----------------------93 76 Glens Falls--------------------61- 69 Saratoga-----------------------75 ’Foothills Council League “Glens Falls Christmas Tourney 137 J.
