.Hudson Jails Central High School Jiermes 1962 Volume 46 Jiudson Jails fiew ] ork I V 2 foreword For nearly thirteen years now, we, the graduating class of 1962, have been to- gether—working, learning, and making life wonderfully worth living by sharing our experiences. At the beginning of our school years, we were comparable to young trees, bending and giving way to the winds of disappointment and the rains of difficult work. But the winds and rains have strengthened our beings so that we no longer bend in the face of disappointments, but meet both good and bad with equal strength, as a solid oak remains firm throughout stormy and fair alike. Let us escort you through the grove of time as we relive the four most glorious years of our lives on the pages of the 1962 HERMES. 3 T)edicatm For your keen sense of civic pride, For your constant awareness of young people and our desires and doubts, For your unwavering devotion to every phase of our education, For your unselfish attitude toward your responsibilities, For being a man of highest principles which w.ill remain with us as ideals to reach, For being a man who has made his work a way of life, We, the class of 1962, sincerely dedicate to you, Dana M. King, our forest of memories. 4 Who's going to clean all those, Mr. King? 5 DANA M KING Superintendent of Schools J. WALTER JUCKETT President of Board BOARD OF EDUCATION 6 FRONT ROW: William G. At around nine o'clock, May 5, 1961. couples began to arrive at our Junior Prom, Rendezvous of the Stars.” The sky over the heads of the dancers was strewn with stars, and it seemed impossible that the prom was being held in the school's gym- nasium. In one corner a large basket and balloon was descending, filled with small, bright balloons; in another a fountain bubbled in a beautifully realistic rock garden. Perhaps the most spectacular focal point was the three-dimensional star covered with blue, white and pink flowers and the six smaller stars which formed the perfect setting for the throne. At ten, the king and queen were announced. Sharon Grant and Paul Chapman, last year's king and queen, crowned Beth VC ardwell and Cliff W inslow as the reigning couple of the 1961 Junior Prom. Our upholders of the national pastime started the season hopefully, and while they ended up 3-4 in Conference play, they pulled the important stunt in perfect order by upsetting Glens Falls 1-0. Pitcher Dan Hunsperger and hitters like Pete Patten and George Bordeau will be looking to win for H.F. this year. Zemis FRONT ROW: F. Morano, A. Clark, B. Karig. SECOND ROW: B. Huckle, O. Campbell, Mr, Thomson, B. Canterbury. Breaking even at five-five was quite a job for Coach Thomson to pull with only one veteran on the squad, but this year looks better. With his first three men back. Coach Thomson thinks Brian Huc- kle, Bob Canterbury, and Ollie Campbell should make for a fairly good season. 89 Team rests between games. Zrack FRONT ROW: D. As usual we had a fabulous track squad and Coach Luciano's Tigers went all the way, sweeping the Class B Section II title for 1961. Back this year are such stars as Jim Powhida, in the shot and discus; John Wilbur, a good distance runner; Dick Rourke, our six-foot high-jumper; Bill Colvin, pole-vaulting; Pete Patten for the hurdles; and several other standouts. Best of luck to our seniors as they get their last crack at high school athletics. 90 Coach looks worried. Varsity basketball FRONT ROW: B. Murray, F. Pattce, J. Butterfield. SECOND ROW: D. LaPan, D. Thayer, B. Hoffnagle, J. Malan, J. Varney, T. Hammitt, D. Hunsperger, C. Winslow, J. Grow, T. Burns. MISSING: D. Rosati. With four veterans returning from last year’s Championship team, we were gunning for the sectionals from the moment the ref tossed the basketball into the air. We lost only three games by a total of only five points. We are especially proud of our seniors, Taylor Hammit, Cliff Winslow, Dan Hunsper- ger, John Malan, and Doug Thayer who were the nucleus of our squad which took the Northern Conference. Our Tigers are on their way to the sectionals while this yearbook is on its way to the press. Congratulations, boys, for a job well done! 92 FRONT ROW: E. Hamel, C. Cataflamo, L. Frank, L. Chase, J.
