Under new head coach Mick O’Neill and his assistants Frank Gaffery, Steve Moen and Bill Tomson the Eagle football squad felt the thrill of victory. After hard fought battles and coaches convincing the players to believe in themselves and each other, the team grew in experience and put it all together to win over Battle Ground 7-0. This was the first win for Bay in two years and broke a string of 28 consecutive losses. The team picked up it's second win by defeating Camas 14-6 in the last game of the season. The 1976-77 Hudson's Bay Bayonnettes provided plenty of it, as their numerous per- formances were viewed by the crowds of football and bas- ketball fans throughout the seasons. The 24 member drill team marched, performed, competed, sold tickets and pro- grams, had bake sales, and woke up to practice at 6:30 A.M. nearly every morning. Bayonnette captain was Betsy Huffman (UPPER LEFT) and the advisor was Mr. Wriston Alexander (IMMEDIATE RIGHT) Ho I to Laurel Watkins, Susie Swartz, Kolly Romlne, Susie Sakrlson, Botsy Huffman Amy Campbell, Denise Korsavago, I ami mirrfYi h, Taylor, 3 And I Poole, Joan Lacy- After a fantastic effort by Bay's C.C. team and by the stern coaching of Leroy Burns the Eagles finished 8th in state compiling a record of 46 wins and 8 losses which were at state. At the district playoffs the girls won their first game, then was eliminated by losing their second game. Award winners were; Captain Mary Ann Eterno; Most Improved; Chris Eggers; Most Inspirational Jamie Dacus. BACK ROW L. TO R. J.V. VOLLEYBALL Under the direction of coach Dacus the girls finished the season with 9 wins and 3 ' losses and placed second in the league. The spikers were a hard working crew and always put up a hard fight. Award winners were Marci Crockford, Inspirational; and Carla Soha, Team Captain. BOTTOM ROW LEFT TO RIGHT- Renee Robinson, Marci Crockford, Sue Christian, Janelle Bailiff, Carla Soha, Marci Evans. 1977 BASKETBALL The Eagles came close but no cigars. That sums up this year's basketball season. The team missed playing In the district tournament by one game. Bill Close was on the all-league team and Rob Skaaden received an honorable mention. Coach of the J.V. team was Steve Moen who led tho squad onto seven wins and nine lossos. The leading scorer was Chris Beatty with a game average of 15.7. Mark Sinclair was captain, Roy Nunn was most improved, and Kevin Thomas was most inspirational. The Rooks, under coach Chuck Robinson, had six wins and ten losses. The leading scorer was Chuck Puck with a 15.4 game average. Rob Skaaden-sr. Despite this fine record they failed to qualify for the district playoffs. The team was lead by senior Shirley Houser. She lead the team in scoring (17.5 points average), and rebounding (11 per game). Another top performer was senior Kathy Kernoul. She was the top defensive player and led the team in assists. Coach Kay Stredwick was proud of the team effort. The following girls were on the 1977 team: Sue Graham, Shirley Houser, Connie Foss, Kathie Kemoul, Lisa Robertson, Beca Moore, Roberta Evans, Chuck White, Janelle Bailiff, Leane Bailiff, Jami Dacus, Donna Wheeler, Jean Fulton, Colleen Cassidy, Robin Fugman. GIRL'S SWIMMING The win loss record of the 1976 girls swimming team was no indication of the success of the season. With 24 girls on the team they ended up the season with 2 wins and 5 losses, and having 5 girls competing in the district meet and one in the state meet. Award winners were, Amy Sacamano-Most Improved, Brenda Wright - Team Captain, Most Inspirational.' BACK; Sue Burgess, Cathy Wlllemarck, Mary Lcwiski, Shoryl Piper, Karen Miller, Karen Carter, Shiena Anderson, Carla Greenen, Dand Ovens, Jackio Doney, Ruth Adkins, Brenda Wright, Amy Sacamano, Crystal Phillips, Kathy Moss, SEATED; Laura Sideras, Marietta McManigal, Denise McCosham, Peggy Loetterle, Denise Crist, Kim Mathlson, Brenda Proctor, Chris Cassady, Sharon Novin Amy Sacam ano-soph. Amy was picked by hor teammates as Most Improved Swimmer. Chris Cassldy-jr. Chris was the only swimmer on the team to qualify for the state meet, she swam the 100 yd. butterfly. Brenda Wright-sr. Brenda was picked by her team mates as Team Captain and Most Inspi- rational. WRESTLING This year's wrestling program sent seniors Steve Holland and Dave Berry to the state tour- nament. This went to show the improvement of this years team. With the league record of two wins and five losses and one tie the Eagles also finished 11th out of 29 teams in the regional tournament. Those qualifying for the regional tournament were seniors Steve Holland, Ken Wilson, Jay Taylor, and Dave Berry, Juniors Vic Benner, Bruce Courtway. TRACK 1977 The boy's track team was strong this year with an overall team record of 20 wins and 4 losses. Pat Stenkamp and Kelly Pruitt went to state de- cathlon meet finishing 22 and 24 respectively. CINDERELLAS Because of the help from the Cinderellas the Boy's Track Tearn was able to do surprisingly well this year. The Cinderellas were: Janell Bailiff, Chris Brooks, Karen Carter, Janell Koester, Cindy Dunning, Tracy Ricky, Terri Steel, Kathy Burns. TENNIS The boys' tennis team finished a successful season with a 5-4 league record for fourth place. Overall, Bay was 8-5 and the Jv team 11-2. The team finished third place in district as Carlos Esquivel took fourth place and Gary Johnson made It to the quarter finals. The team's final league record was two wins and 14 losses. Only five seniors were on the team. They were: Gary Boal, Ron Hopkins, Rob Skaaden, Craig Staples, and Reed Thomas. The Award winners were: Inspirational Rob Skaaden, Most Valuable Gary Boal, Captain Craig Staples. WM gw® BASEBALL 1977 CRAIG STAPLES BURNS ONE IN « GIRL'S TRACK This year's girls' track team wound up the season with 5 wins and 3 losses. They finished the District meet in 4th place and 2nd place in sub-district. Shirly Houser competed in the state meet and finished 5th in the long jump. They were also League Champs. Members of the team were Chris Reylonds, John Cederholm, Jay Taylor, Rex Codwell, and Jeff Johnston. 1977 GIRLS TENNIS TEAM EXCELS Our girls tennis team came out strong this year under the dedicated direction of Miss Kay Stredwick and brought their overall team efforts to a score of 8 wins and 2 losses. Dec- orated extravagantly with stars, rainbows and streamers, this traditional girl-ask-guy event was sponsored by the Junior Class and proved to be a huge success. It starred Columbia River's Melody Adams as Fanny Brice, Fort's Kevin Harger as Nick Arnstoln, and Bay's Darcy Schmitt as Mrs. Brice. Sophomore Kris Anderson played Mrs. O'Malley.
