Si aS he 1966 wha Z. = Dt 2 ae = cakes _ Dt Sieppingstone [seis idee : a eS yi y N% NA Plainfield, Abn jersey aN s RE Wi he Mr. Joseph E, Passarella B.S, and M,S, City College of New York, M.A. Columbia University Principal HUBBARD JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL PLAINFIELD, NEW JERSEY JOSEPH E. PASSARELLA, PRINCIPAL My dear Young Friends of the Class of 1968: When I first welcomed you to Hubbard, I told you how fast three years would pass, and now, so soon after, it seems, you are ready to leave and move on to the next stage in education and life. Congratulations on your successful completion of junior high school. During your stay at Hubbard you have changed greatly. You have acquired new strengths, new energies, and new powers. You also have learned many things. Although the physical world daily grows smaller, YOUR WORLD OF EXPERIENCE - the world of your mind and heart and spirit -- has grown immensely larger. Your eyes see more keenly; your ears hear more sharply; your mind understands more clearly; your heart pulses more feelingly; and your spirit soars limit- lessly. And this is as it should be, For the purpose of junior high school is to help youth to grow up. To grow up is to discover that life is no longer the simple world of our childhood. To grow up is to understand ourselves and other human beings. To grow up is to make choices between right and wrong, and to accept the responsibilities and consequences of our decisions. To grow up is to learn that, although life becomes more complex, there lies within each man's grasp the CHOICE to live and work and play with his fellow men, in mutual trust, in order to live a better life and to make a better world. This is the promise of education, and within the promise of education lies the promises of the future. To fulfill the promises of the future will be as challenging, as exciting, and as important as anything the human family has achieved so far. Brotherhood, to become real, will require in- creasing knowledge, greater understanding, and deeper respect of man for man, The yearnings of the heart and spirit of man through the ages -- the search for truth, justice, peace, beauty, com- passion and charity -- these will need to prevail over the darkness of ignorance, the gloom of despair, and the evil and self-defeat of destruction. Now, no one man, as an individual, can achieve all these at once. But each man, as an in- dividual, can live his life on the same high plane that he expects of his fellow men, and, working together, we will all come nearer to the better life and the better world we all seek, Let us not look back in anger, nor forward with fear, but around us with awareness. I extend to you our very best wishes for the future. Yours very sincerely, JE fereanetle Joseph E, Passarella ike Principal Mr. Louis Allen Freda B.S, and M.A, Seton Hall University RS eia ries Guidance Secretary Mrs. Carol Schirmer Secretary to the Vice’Principal Mrs. Geraldine Bigley Mrs. Rose Sobel Secretary to the Principal Wiclawee (CE fet Mrs, Myrtle Hardesty B.S.
