We often come to school, day in and day out, without think- ing about what we are doing here and what is happening to us. Most of us are unaware of it, but some- thing is happening to us, for high school is shaping our lives--socially, academi- cally, physically. Some of the unseen forces have a more pronounced effect, and others are resisted, so that each student develops along different lines. Though we may not notice the effect of high school on ourselves, we often see our friends reacting to it, and by ob- serving their changing moods and behav- ior, we discover that high school is a major influence in our lives. As you glance through the pages of this yearbook, try to answer for your- self the question, What is Hubbard High School? The answer will not be the same for each person, and some will not find a satisfactory answer. But years from now when you take this BARD into your hands, you will be able to say, This is Hubbard High School . Contents Administration and Faculty .............. We are quick to learn the current fads, fashions, and songs, and dances. Patterns for We pause and relax, and enjoy the companionship of others. Often we give of ourselves to entertain and enlighten others. Social Advancement We share our smiles of victory and tears of defeat. We are alert and ready, knowing that we will soon be called on to fight for I-I.I-I.S. Patterns for Physical Development We support our team and instill a desire into the players to make losers into winners. B. M. PERCY Clerk-Treasurer Serving on a local Board of Education is one of the most challenging, time-consuming, and yet commend- able services a citizen can render to his community. This group is the policy- -forming and advisory body which assists our school superintendent in the financ- ing and administration of our public schools . Its duty in providing a free, tax-supported education entails much responsibility, concern, effort, and ingenuity-- With little remuneration. We are grateful to these citizens of Hubbard for pro- viding us with beautiful buildings and grounds, our ex- cellent teachers and supervisors, our transportation and other facilities, as well as for their encouragement and interest in helping us to attain a good education. GEORGE GUIDOSH FLORENCE DIROLL Secretary PHYLLIS GAMACHE Secret ary ,iuam MMIN $ Acting Superintendent Mr. Loren O. Giblin is our acting superintendent this year during the absence of Mr. Briggs. He is responsible for the establishment of the curriculum and staff supervision. Under his direction, many curriculum changes which will benefit our school program have been made, especially in the high school. Superintendent Mr. Loren H. Briggs, now on leave of absence from the Hubbard school system, is working on his doctorate at Ohio State University, but he still acts in an advisory capacity to the Board of Educa- tion. His advanced educational ex- perience will make him an even more capable leader of our schools in the future. Mrs. Norma Sonny, high school sec- retary and treasurer for most school clubs, is a very efficient and helpful person. She keeps records of all bank- ing accounts, writes checks, answers the telephone, maintains student scholastic records, writes letters, and keeps in- formed on all school personnel and af- fairs--all with such a happy disposition! Principal Mr. ClaIis E. Jones, our principal, holds a position of grave responsibility. He not'only sets high standards of conduct for about twelve hundred students, but also attends to his many regular duties with admirable conscientiousness. We are grateful to Mr. Jones for working so hard during the summer months making out student schedules, for giving some ex- cellent pep talks which were an impor- tant part in keeping our school spirit high, and for making our stay at Hubbard High one that we will soon look back on with fond memories. Mrs. Barbara Hogg is the newest addi- tion to the office secretarial staff. Fitch came to Hubbard on Septem- ber 25 and walked home with a 36-14 victory. Hubbard showed remarkable spirit and skill during the second and third quarters. Dan Brown just couldn't be stopped. Memorial played host to our fight- ing Eagles in an action packed thriller and an 8-6 victory for Memorial. With Hubbard near the goal, the ball was carried over for the toucthWn by Howie Meyer. Despite snow and rain, the Eagles made the trip to Sharpsville and showad everyone they were the boss. Dan Brown, scoring two touchdowns and three extra points, and Denny Mathews, adding another touchdown under our belts, made the final score 21-7 with another sweet victory for Hubbard. West Branch was our guest October 16 for our Homecoming game. School spirit and determination reigned high and the final tally of 28-8 in favor of Hubbard showed it. Howie Meyer led the Eagles with two touchdowns, fol- lowed by J erry Campana and Dan Brown again with one each. Boardman also came to Hubbard to match wits, carrying with them the Powederhorn. Later they went home with a 14-0 defeat and left us in charge of the Powderhorn. Excitement reigned as Howie Meyer ran the first play from the scrimmage for our first touchdown followed by Dan Brown later in the game. This was the first time in Boardman's history that they were shut out. Our last away game found us at Struthers and found us another victory, also. The final tally was 14-6 with touchdowns scored by Dan Brown and Charles Cherry. Our final battle was with our rival Brookfield, at home. With our team now in high gear, we weren't about to be stopped, and we weren't. We sent Brookfield home with a 42-14 loss. Touchdowns were tallied as follows: Art Cornwell with one, Denny Mathews, one, Charles Cherry, one, Wayne Hagen with one, and Dan Brown with two. Although the 1964-65 basketball season was not one of Hubbard's best, we can be proud of our team, for they tried their best to win victories for our school. Our first conflict, with Newton Falls, was a prediction of what would come in the future, for here we were handed our first defeat--Newton Falls 51, Hubbard 35. Our first S.V.C. defeat came from Suuthers with a 51-42 decision at Struthers on Friday, December 4. Our dry spell remained unbroken with defeats to North, 70-62 ta thriller all the wayi; Boardman, 75-48; and Poland, 54-50. This game was our closest to victory, so far, and now our Eagles were starting to move. Practice saw renewed hope, but it took four more games to see victory. Fitch toppled us 65-46; Howland worked for a 57-51 victory; Girard totaled 52 points to our 47; and Brook- field handed us a 97-76 decision in an exciting scoring game. About this time, we had a pep as- sembly which, along with the hardest week of practice, seemed to do the trick. Our first victory came from Campbell in our tenth game and was a victory well deserved. Our Eagles toppled over the Red Devils 71 to 55. The next night we met Rayen at Rayen and were handed a defeat of 82- 53. We have seven games left to play at this writing, and we hope that Hubbard is able to see victories in some of them. 1.. t Jerry Campana Bill Gladys: Bill Skruck Senior Lettermen Boys Physical Education Class Scenes Chemistry Our Sponsors APPLIANCE STORES SAM'S HUBBARD RADIO AND TV 10 N .
