The confusion of the world today has made it impossible for many of you to make any plans for your futureg it has even been ditlicult. for some of you to carry on day by day. We commend you for the admirable way in which you have met this obstacle and surmounted it. The class of 1951 has made a fine contribution in citizenship, scholarship, and athletics to further the honor of Hubbard High School. It has been well and truly said that our schools have kept us a free nation. So long as our schools continue to grow. and to teach the fundamentals of democracy. so long will our nation continue to be free. We pledge our continued effort to provide for all the pupils of Hubbard a school system where they shall be offered every opportunity to advance and grow in the American way of life. They meet with Mr. MacDonald and other members of the faculty to discuss the problems of the stu- dents within the school. The student relates his ideas to the teacher through the Student Council. Each student has the privilege of expressing his ideas. One of the chief duties of the Student Council is the arrangement of all assembly pro- grams, this also includes the booking of outside programs. One of the major responsibilities of Student Council this year was the reorganization of the monitor system which was abandoned two years ago. This group felt it should be re- organized for the benefit of the student body. Monitors were chosen for each period and two were placed on each Hoor. The head monitor for each period is responsible to see that there is a monitor at every station every period. Mr. MacDonald is the advisor of the Student Council. The Senior class of 1951 held their first class reunion last evening at the beautiful Chicone's Manor on the Hubbard-Youngstown Road. Jean Barclay, the chairman, was the first to arrive. She looked charming in a pale green formal. Jean is engaged to a Cadet from West Point with the date set for June 23rd. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stiver QBabs Ma- sonj , soon arrived in their new Olds con- vertible. Babs was her usually happy self and would show pictures of her four lovely children to anyone willing to look. Gerry Beach, Chief beautician at M. G. M. Studios, and Butch Salerno, a Hollywood Chiropodist, arrived with Miss America of 1954, our one and only Toni Pascarella. Al Madeline, John Garfield's double, also made the trip with them. John Opalenik, still single but having lost none of his charm, was surrounded by a group of admirers most of the evening. Millie Sloan, Madelyn Angelo, Jeannette Lowry, Anna Dickey, and Rose Mary Gur- ela, just to mention a few ! ! ! Nancy Thomas fMrs. Andy Panninizoj, Beverly Hettrick fMrs. Charles Ladigj , Al- ice Yates fMrs. Fred Pappaj, and Barbara Suhy fMrs. Jack Saulinej were seen talk- ing about the little darlings they left at home with grandma. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kyle fDiane Chufoj had a death call and left shortly after dinner. They missed Shirley Fiedler, star of Al Fa- beris new T. V. Show, vocalizing on 'fStar- lite , by our own Bill Mitchell, conductor and composer. She was accompanied by Nancy Nogal, concert pianist, and Marjorie McPheron, famed violinist. Fay and Bill Grose, now owners of Powers and Flaughern, escorted Rae Vernell, manager of North Western Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Evelyn Shook, saxaphonist in the Phil Spitalny All Girl Orchestra. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilson fJoy Smith, arrived in their new 1961 Kelly Green For- te . Madelyn Carsone, secretary to Sandy Forte, owner of the Forte Motor Company of Detroit, came with her boss and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pogany. Louie is known to millions as the 'iBubble Gum King . He owns the largest factory in the world with an output of 15,000,000 pounds of bubble gum per year. Patsy Villano and his charming wife, Mary Jo, flew in from Houston where he is playing with Tex Beneky. Babs Sowers, successful fashion design- er, flew in from New York just a few min- utes late. She and Don Craig, hero of the Korean War and famed stock car driver , were busy renewing an old friendship from a way back when. It seems TaFfi and Ronnie had an- other argument. She could be seen talking with Lois McLain and Marcella Scott most of the evening while Ronnie talked sports with John Luthern, pitcher with the Cleve- land Indians, Eugene Pansler, the Yankee shortstop, Don Burton and Jesse Burkey, now playing with the Chicago Bears, Goo- ch , the world's heavy weight champion, and Henry Clacko, world famous figure ska- ter with the Ice Follies. In the recreation room Mundo , Jim Antenucci, Mike Horvath, Chuck Reed, and Don Singer were shooting pool. Mundo was behind the eight ball a good part of the t'me. Betty Ferrar played a few of the old tunes, among which were The Tennessee Waltz, Be Mine, I Wanna Be Loved, and The Thing, while Clarice Foley, Fran Mor- ris, Barbara Jones, Helen Davis, and Joyce Cooley harmonized. Bob Kelley, our Senior class president, made a speech, bringing back many memo- ries of class plays and picnics, trials, and triumphs through which we always came out on top. Of course, we always needed the help of our advisor, Mr. St. John. Bob is speaker of the House of Representatives at the present time.
