s E N I O R It was a glorious day in September, 1958, when ten bright and shining Freshmen entered the portals of dear old Hoyt High. The majority of us were already familiar with the high school as we had spent four years of our grade school days here. However, we were happy to be able to introduce four new students to the high school. They were Carolyn Ungerman from Point Pleasant, Marilyn Meggison from Rock, and Janet Southard and Bennett Ball from Topeka. The officers this year were Beth Everhart, President; Janet Southard, Vice- President; Beverly Bostwick, Secretary; Bennett Ball, Treasurer; Ryland Kessinger, Reporter. The remaining members were Charles Bailey, Garry Stadel, and Richard Greenway. Miss Vera Pearl McDonald was our sponsor. Janet Southard and Beth Everhart were elected cheer- leaders. Beth was also F. F. A. Sweetheart attendant this year. Our most outstanding event was, of course, INITIATION! When we entered our Sophomore year in the fall of 1959, we found that we had the same old tribe back with the exception of Richard Greenway. The officers this year were Beth Everhart, President; Charles Bailey, Vice-President; Beverly Bostwick, Secretary; Marilyn Meggison, Treasurer; Bennett Ball, Reporter; Ryland Kessinger and Janet Southard, Student Council Representatives. One of our money making projects was selling Kathryn Beach candy. We were pleased to have Janet Southard and Beth Everhart elected cheerleaders again. Beth was Homecoming attendant and Janet was Snowball queen attendant. Another thrilling event was the school carnival in which we made a float entitled Oueen of Flowers for the parade. Janet Southard was our carnival queen candidate. Our sponsor was Mrs. Hallie Borth. Our Junior year was a very eventful year beginning in August, 1960. We found everyone accounted for the first day of school. Bennett Ball left us about a month after school began. The officers were Ryland Kessinger, President; Janet Southard, Vice-President; Beverly Bostwick, Secretary-Treasurer; Marilyn Meggison, Reporter; Beth Everhart and Charles Bailey, Student Council Representatives. During the first semester we were saddened by the departure of our classmate Carolyn Ungerman. Immediately following this, we put on our play, Nowhere Fast . Our most exciting event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet which was held at Holiday Inn North in Topeka. Our theme was Wonderland by Night . During this year we also chose our motto, Quality, not Quantity ; flower, deep purple mum; and our colors, lavendar and white. We appreciated the help from our sponsor Mrs. Elberta Shimp, during this busy year. Janet Southard and Beth Everhart were elected cheerleaders for the third consecutive year. Beth was Homecoming queen attendant and Marilyn Meggison was Snowball queen. In the fall of 1961 we entered the final phase of our high school education. Our class roll is once again up to nine with the addition of Donna Gooderl from Mobile, Alabama, and John Nichols from Holton. Class officers for this eventful year are Janet Southard, President; Donna Gooderl, and Beth Everhart were elected cheerleaders. We were happy to have two of the Homecoming queen candidates coming from our class. They were Janet Southard, attendant, and Beth Everhart, queen. Our Snowball queen candidate was Beverly Bostwick, and our Queen of Courts candidate was Donna Gooderl. The production of the annual has been our biggest project this year. This year held many exciting events: Junior-Senior Banquet, May 4, 1962; Senior Play, April 6; Senior trip to Rockaway Beach, May 5 to May 11; Baccalaureate service. May 13; Graduation, May 17. We appreciated the wonderful help and guidance Mrs. Frances Cross, our sponsor, rendered to us.
