Hi-Lites FRESHMEN IN ITIATION The freshmen initiation lasted from September 21 to 23. For three days they were required to endure the usual tortures forced upon them by the sophomores. Friday evening after additional punishments, such as: going through the paddling machine, walking the plank, boxing each other while blind folded, and facing a firing squad, they were received as full iiedged citizens of H.H.S.. After this, all high school students enjoyed a weiner roast at the expense of the sophomores. G.A.A. HAYRIDE On October 7, 1949, the G.A.A. sponsored a hay ride for the members and their guests. All climbed upon one large wagon which was plentifully supplied with hay. After a long ride over the network of roads around Hoyleton and a vigorous hay fight, all were of the same opinion that it was time for refreshments. Everyone showed their appreciation for the time and work of the refres'hment committee by consuming a large amount of sandwiches and cokes. After this the party broke up and those who had, been present started home tired but happy. HALLOWEEN PARTY If there were ghosts and goblins they most certainly would have been present at the High School Halloween Party. To reduce the feeling of fear, a few games were played while part of the recreation committee ventured out to relocate the loot of Captain Kidd. A short time later the different groups started out to try and claim the hidden treasurers. The committee had lost notes of direction on the way which enabled one group to strike it rich. Food in keeping with the occasion was served to pacify the defeated and heighten the spirits of the victors. By now it was getting late and everyone wanted to return home before the spooks started on their nightly jaunts.
