fv.p'-Y I-li-Lifes SCHOOL DAY AT THE COUNTY FAIRA The Hoyleton Public Schools' exhibit at the 1947 Washington Co. Fair held at Nashville was one of the outstanding displays of the fair. The exhibit won three first place ribbons, eight second place. ribbons, and three third place ribbons. One of the most. interesting exhibits Was the geography correspondence project of the fifth and sixth grades of our school. This consisted of a large map of the world surrounded by letters received from pen pals in foreign lands, by the fifth and sixth 'grade pupils., Streaimers led from each letter to the country on the map from which it came. Countries represented were France, England, Australia, and New Zealand. This project received a second place ribbon. Art Work from the various grades and other class projects made up the rest of the exhibit. The entire exhibit was very colorful. FRESHMAN INITIATION The annual initiation of the Freshmen into the mysteries of high school ended with the traditional party on the evening of September 19. All during the week they were required to carry the Sophomores' books, wear their clothes backwards, anddo other ridiculous things. On Fri- day evening they had to go through several trying ordeals, but everyone managed to come out alive. The evening closed with a Weiner roast in Fred Greiman's pasture. This part always eases the minds of the Freshmen concerning their recent humiliations because the Sophomores always pay the entire cost of the party. At the end of the Weiner roast, the green Freshies were now full fledged high school students and could start their plans for initiating the new class next fall. G. A. A. HAYRIDE The G. A. A. had its initiation ceremonies on the evening of October 10th. They took in six new members. After the ceremonies were con- cluded at the school, each G. A. A. member and her guest climbed on a hay wagon and went out to Obermeyers pasture. A huge bonfire was built, and the evening was spent in playing games and singing songs. Refreshments were served late in the evening and the entire group re- turned to town. CHRISTMAS PARTY We had our Christmas party on the evening of December 18. The entertainment committee had planned a full evening of games in the Gymnasium. After these were concluded, the entire group went to the study hall which had been attractively decorated in the Christmas motif. Card tables were set up with places set. The Christmas tree sparkled at the front of the room. After the gifts were exchanged, the refreshment committee served sandwiches and soda. Mr. Beck and Miss Piper received several gifts from the students.
