Class Prophecy Having been appointed by the faculty of Hoyleton High School to consult Harvey. the all- knowing rabbit, as to the where-abouts of the graduating class of '46, I paid him a special visit. It has been ten years since we have all been together, but we haven't forgotten each other. After having discussed the weather for a while he started telling me about my former classmates. Stanley Horst, was at the University of Illinois. He had achieved great success as a basketball playen on the Hoyleton team and was now on the faculty list as coach up at the University. Marilyn Brauer was teaching a class of kindergarden children in St. Louis. Everett VVehking was a radio :mnocmcer over KMOX. His ability was first recognized in Sparta. Earl Michael. newlv elected Senator of Illinois. was busv in his office at Belleville and Eunice Schrierbecker. his secretary, was greatly enioying her work. Alfred Greiman was teaching VVorld History at Normandy High in St. Louis. Selma Neuhaus was happily married and lived on a large dairy farm in Wisconsin. Orville Lilienkamp and Harry Hongsermeier joined partner- ship and had started the UGOOSE-FAT OIL COMPANY . Bernice VVestermeyer was now in St. Louis where she had gained fame as a designer of women's shoes. Alvin Unverfehrt, happily married, was honeymooning at Niagara Falls. Jean Niermann was singing the lead in Tristram and Isolde at the Metropolitan Opera House. Erwin Herzog, owner of the Herzog Cigarette Company in New York, was enjoying his bachelor's life. Minette Cohlmeyer, head nurse at the General MacArthur Hospital in Japan, is now taking orders from Reinhardt, now Col. Reinhardt Krueger, the doctor in charge: Donna -Ieanne Keyes was happily married to Bob and living with her family in Collinsville. Eunice Rommelmann was teaching an English class at California University. Roy Hongsermeier, ace pilot of the A.A.F. was stationed in Hawaii. Marilyn Schuette was training nurses at the Lister Memorial Hospital in New York. Virgil Kroeger was at the Kroeger Shipyards, formerlv known as the Kaiser Shipvards. Doris Ruth Christian was owner of a Millinery Shoppe in Cleveland, Ohio. Virgil Spenner was living on his large ranch in Arizona with his family. Marilyn Dries was living in Texas with her husband, who was stationed there. Dorothy Stahmer was happily married and living on the farm north of Hoyleton. Betty Fern Spenner, singing star of WDZ, had achieved great success. Eunice Schaeffer was a beauty operator in Los Angeles and worked for Metro during her spare time. Then Io Callahan left Hoyleton early in the fall of '45, and Marvin Kasten dropped school because of illness. Seven of the remaining eleven pupils come from the parochial school. They are LaVerne Michael. Norma Stahmer. Marie Unverfehrt. Le Roy Maschhoff. Roger Brinkman, Robert Brink, and Marvin Haake. The other four came from our public school. They are Dorothy Hongsermeier, Robert Berleman, Eymer Nebe. a11d Keith Klosterman. Robert Berleman and Elmer Nebe were the only Freshmen on the basketball squad. All the pupils except Bob Berleman, Le Roy Maschhoff and Elmer Nebe are in our school band. CAN YOU IMAGINE ?????? Bob Berleman-without his winning ways around the girls? Stanley Horst was its leading scorer with a record total of 614 points. The team outscored its opponents, 1468 to 1399 throughout the season and averaged -L? points per game to our opponents 41. VVe placed third in this year's Kaskaskia Conference Tournament which was held here. In our first game of the District Tournament, we defeated Breese by a 38-31 score in an overtime. VVe were eliminated in our next game by St. Mary's of Carlyle. Then we climaxed our season bv winning the championship of the Class B division of the Sparta ,Iunior Tournament. The remaining otiicers ate the same as they were the first semester. The spring party was held April 12th. The G.A.A. invited the P. E. Class. Each girl brought a guest. The evening was spent in going on a scavenger hunt. The G.A.A. play day was held at our school May 11th. We invited eight schools in our district as our guests. For our class work we have practiced for the archery contest. We learned to build human pyramids and we learned to tumble. We played basketball and practiced for the shooting contest. Also we have played volley ball, soccer, badminton, soft ball. and run relays. BAND At the beginning of the school year '45-'46 there were 26 members enrolled in the band. During the year several new members were added. The band played for several programs, plays, the operetta, an American Legion program. and basketball games.
