This year seventeen of these projects were entered in the Fitch Science Fair and five were in competition at the Kent Science Fair. The projects range from construction of rockets to biological study of re- generation. A recent achievement of the Science Club has been the erection and main- tenance of the school weather bureau. Their equipment includes a barometer, rain guage, thermometers, and a new- ly purchased anemometer. Club mem- bers collect and record the weather data each day. Ofhcc' Aides An office is a busy place with many things to be done. ln our offices, the secretaries are relieved of many little jobs by the office aides. ln the main office they sort mail, sell supplies, make change, and run errands. The aides in the junior high office have these same duties in addition to collecting attend- ance slips and counting tax stamps. These girls are obtaining valuable secretarial ex- perience by actuallv performing these duties. Visual ,flidfs Educators have found that tilms and record- ings are often a valuable aid to instruction. They can bring events that happen far away or in times past into the presence of the stu- dents. At Howland there are always visual aides operators available. These students who are under the direction of Mr. lrwin are trained in the use of movie projectors, tape recorders, record players, and the opaque pro- jector. They are a busy group, showing movies thirty to forty times per week. Bottom Row: Mr. Irwin, Jack Berry, Art Davis, Jack Ranck, Shirley Taylor, Ted Vannelli, George Winans, Melvin Balciar.
