Student emzfe Student Senate is composed of students who are elect- ed to represent their home-rooms in the governing body of our school. The president was chosen in a new manner this year. A school-wide election was held in which Bill Burick was elected. Pat Ghisea, runner-up in this election, serves as vice-president. Other officers are Sandie Stull, secretary, Paul Waddell, treasurer, and Lee Selby, sergeant-at-arms. Our Student Council has been very active this year. They have planned and executed a number of assemblies in which there has been increased student participation. The Bun- dles for Children clothing drive was sponsored by this group. Other projects that the Student Senate have undertaken this year include installing a tele- phone booth in the lower hall, buying a coffee maker for the home economics department, sponsoring a talent program, and purchasing caps and gowns for the seniors.

Top Row: Dick Abruzzi, Charlene Aley Marilyn Kay Clyde Waddell rzfiwml J-folwr Szfcicfy The Howland Chapter of the National Honor Society held tapping ceremonies for new members on Feb- ruary l l. Sixteen new senior members and eight jun- iors were tapped after having been selected by the faculty on the basis of service, scholarship, character, and leadership. Leif Person, Swedish exchange stu- dent, was given an honorary membership in the How- land chapter. Dick Abruzzi is president of NHS this year. Judy Moyes is the vice president and Pat Ghisea the secretary. Two of our officers, Pat Ghisea and Dick Abruzzi, also serve the county in the positions of chaplain and first vice-president. Mr. Schuller, guest speaker at the National Honor Society tap ping ceremonies, gave an inspirational talk to faculty, students and parents.
