Uafzsiftl gaslzeflaall geason This year's team will be remembered well in a few years from now when people reminisce about great teams char have represented Howland. This team has been truly great because they have been able to raise to great heights to defeat stronger opponents without gloating about it, and have been able to take a licking without alibing. This has been a school team because they have always placed the interests of the school above that of the team, and the interests of the team above that of the individual. ' Every member of this team is a good student, and an excellent school citizen. Their attitude toward the faculty has been one of consideration, courtesy to the highest degree and complete co-operation. Coach Hei- stand is to be congratulated on tgrning out a great basketball team, and even more for the contribution he has made in encouraging clean habits and good char- acter in this team. The Senior members of this team, Ray Grove, joe Pishotti, jim Shafer, Omar Thomas, and Jomes Wolcott have contributed a great deal to our school this year. Basketball is just one of the noteworthy contributions they have made. Basketball in a school is good if it turns out men of good character. We feel that this yearis team is a good example of the well behaved, well balanced American boy. Bill Cook and Jim Sprague proved themselves to be very capable, dependable Nlanagers. The younger members of the team will be heard from again next year. Whatever these boys decide to do we feel sure that they are going to benefit from their experiences here at Howland. We know that Howland will always remember them as great athletes and great school citi- zens. We shall always be proud of them. Page l ifly-Two

The Howland Rifle Team schedules matches through the year with other schools: Boardman, Rayen, Sharon, and Southington. The had weather this winter has caused a lot of the matches to be canceled. The team has also participated in national postal matches, placing sixtieth out of two hundred and eighty school teams. The team is instructed by Mr. H. H. Lash, and the faculty sponsor is Mr. H. Hanson. Page Fi fl y-Um'
