V One of the happiest memories that the Seniors of the Class of '-16 will carry away from high school with them is the trip that they took to Niagara Falls. The .Seniors were very happy to have as their guests for the trip: Mr, and Mrs. Page, their class sponsor, Miss Mcllonald, Mi's. Allen, and Mr. Jappinga. lt was a noisy group of Seniors that left Howell for Detroit around 11 a.m. oi. eliartered buses May Zlst. They boarded the S. S. South America early, found their state rooms and were settled by the time the ship left the docks at Ii :ISO p.m. A number of other schools were getting settled at the same time, Leaving the skyline of Detroit behind, the ship passed under the Ambassador bridge and by Fighting Island, Bob Lo, Ainherstlierg, and Grosse Isle. and then across Lake Erie. After a Georgian Rav Line dinner and get-together in the Grand Salon, the ship entered Cleveland's harbor and cruised slowly by Cleveland to give the Seniors a chance to see the city at night. The morning of May 22nd, there were deck sports in which every- one had a chance to participate. They also had a chance to explore the ship before luncheon, which was served just before the ship docked in Buffalo at 12:00 noon. Buses met the Seniors and took them on a tour of Prospect Park which is the American side of the Falls. There the Seniors were thrilled by their trip on the Maid-of-the-lNIist. the steamer that sails in the lxasin of Niagara Falls. The trip from the Falls was routed past the Bell Aircraft Company where fighter planes for Russia were manufactured during the war. On the return trip from Buffalo as the ship was pulled by tugs out of the river and into Lake Erie, a gay evening was spent in dancing. Another attraction of the evening was the amateur night program in which Howell took part, using some of the acts from the Senior Play. The Seniors arrived at Detroit, after spending three delightful days on their trip, May 23, 12 noon.
