L0-nfl THE STUDENT UNION The purpose of the Student Councrl rs to enable the students themselves to govern the hrgh school actlvrtres so as to create greater effrcrency and loyalty wrthrn the school The offrcers of the Student Councrl thrs year are presrdent Betty Maas vrce presr dent Tom Myers secretary Charlotte Monroe executrve secretary Dorothy Wrrght and treasurer Kenneth Grrffrn The other members of the Councrl makrng frve representatrves from each class are Ronald Kurtz Marjorre Robb Robert Euler Paul Andrews Marguerrte Burnett Kathryn Bollrnger Joe Metz Arthur Eldred Joe Allen Tom Garwood Mary Joe Baldwln Elrzabeth McCook Kathryn Karney Mary Ellen Pasmore and Clyde Maas The four faculty advrsors are Mrss L Oren Mr L Wlllrs Mr P Bennett and Mr H M Murphy In addltron to the Councrls regular functrons of equxppmg and settmg the admrssron to the major sports contests and sponsorlng Student Umon partles the Councll thls year pard 35725 one fourth of the note owed for the undertakrng of the lrghtrng equrpment on the Page Athletrc Freld donated to the J unror Red Cross the money collected by the school scrap drrve undertook a drrve for 100W membershrp rn the Student Umon rnvestlgated the pOSSlblI1tl9S and drew up plans for an ACt1V1t10S trcket rn the future and rmproved the re cordrng musrc system by purchasrng nevl records albums and needles THE ORCHESTRA The Orchestra IS a musrcal orgamzatron conducted by Mr Stollstermer conslstrng of twenty elght students Thrs group plays for forum meetrngs and assemblres practrce for rt begrns early THE MADRIGAL CLUB The Madrrgal Club rs a select group of srngers consrstrng of twenty three members prcked each year for therr abrhty to srng rn a small group Each year the Madrrgal srngs for local clubs drstrrct Red Cross meetmgs the Chrrstmas and Sprrng Concerts and the Hartland Festrval Thls cl rb IS entrrely outsrde of the school currrculum practlsrng rn the evenrng once a W eek THE CHORUS The Chorus rs composed of seventy srx senror hrgh school students The Chorus looks forward to two programs durrng the year these berng the Chrrstmas Concert and the Sprrng Concert Songs sung by thrs group are made up of negro sprrrtuals hvmns and classrcal numbers THE BANDS The Boys and Grrls Bands are composed of forty three and forty srx members re spectrvely These organlzatrons under the drrectron of Mr Stollstermer march and play at the football games each fall For patrrotrc assemblres forums and parades the bands are ready and wrllrng to partrclpate Each sprrng these organrzatrons grve a brref concert of overtures and marches GIRLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The Grrls Athletrc Assocratron IS headed by Shrrley Cook as presrdent Celra Street as secretary and Charlotte Monroe as treasurer wrth Mrss Oren as sponsor Thrs year because a large number of the upper classmen worked after school the membershrp rn the J unror and Senror classes was not as large as was hoped but neverthe less all four sports soccer volleyball basketball and baseball were very much enjoyed 0 ' . . . .
