T T ' ' 1 - u 31 HOWE SCHOOL Summer SCSSIOH The Summer Session at Howe School is for the benefit of those students who are back in their work and have delrnquencies to make up, for those who are preparlng for promotion to adv anced classes, and for those who require special tutoring in preparation for college It pro vides also for those boys whose parents wish them provided for and employed during the long vacation The more exacting routme of the regular term IS relaxed, but there is given such supervision as is necessary for good order and decorum It is the arm of the Rector to provide a delightful home school where the boys may combme some serious study with pleasant outings, enough to relieve the tedium of the school session, and make the summer vacation a profitable and pleasant one VVhen the lessons of the day are finished the time is given to recreation and amusements, and in good weather excursions are made to places of mterest in the vicrnits and much time is spent upon the rivers and the lakes The session begins uly 5 and continues about sex en and one half weeks INSTRUCTION Classes are formed to meet the requirements of students and, where necessary private lessons are given The work undertaken is of a serious character, and is of such a standard as counts toward college admission or toward graduation in the School lt is rarely advisable for a student to undertake more than two studies, unless the work IS a of the Howe School Course It is not our aim to provide any special attraction bx excursions to distant places or nay al or milltarx features but simply to provide an opportumts for boys to do some serious work amid congenial surround ings, with everx opportuniq for healthful recreation and outdoor life EXPEIN SES KIND ODTFIT The charge for the Summer Session is S110 This includes tuition board and room or tent with care and supervision For students in physics and chemistry the laboratory fee is 195 OO A limited amount of spending money may be deposited with the Rector Each student is expected to have sex eral pairs of white duck trousers and a dark coat and to furnish his own bed clothing and towels Other wise the outfit is such as is prouded for outings and summer wear There is no uniform required for the Summer Session 41 . HOWE SCHOOL The Lower School The Lower School is for boys under fourteen years of age It IS entirely separate from the Middle and Upper Schools It has no other influences than those of its own making It is under the most excellent experienced and conscientious management of the Rev and Mrs Irving Todd and provides the very best instruction and training It is far better for boys to enter this department than to wait unt1l they are older and then enter one of the upper classes It has been our experience that boys who enter the Lower School develop more satisfactorily and attain the highest standards While this department is free from con tact with the older bovs vet the younger boys enjoy all the privileges recreation and entertainments provided for the school at large The playground for the sounger boys is entirely separate from that of the older boys It is under constant supervision and it is in the immediate neighborhood of the School building A plax house IS provided for games in winter Virtually the same games are plased at the Lower School that are play ed in the Middle School SEPARATE BUILDING The building used bs the Low er School is particularly adapted to that purpose lt contains an attractive school room sitting room heated with hot water It is situated some little distance from the Upper School but convenlentlx near the Dining Hall and the Chapel which buildings are used in common with the entire School EXERCISES There ls a short military drill during autumn and spring During the winter months a period in manual training each dai takes the place of drill Ample provision is made for outdoor exercise and recreation including favorite games under expert coaching and outings, skating swimming boating fishing etc properly supervised and safe guarded against accident or excessive exertion It IS xx ell for boss to bring with them their balls bats tops and other implements for sport Each boy is assigned to either the Knickerbacker or the VVhxte Athletic Club ENTRANCE AN D OD TFIT The conditions for admission and membership in general are those already described in preceding pages No formal examination is re 42 V . 7 .
