Jackets for Jesus Spiritual Life—147 Chapel A Time of Worship Helen K. Phelps Services for Mrs. Helen Kennedy Phelps were conducted on Tuesday, May 26, 2981, in Dallas. Mrs. Phelps died at Brownwood Regional Hospital following a long illness. She was born Oct. 20, 1922, in Teague and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1940. She received a bachelor of arts degree in 1944 from Baylor University, where she also graduated with honors. She married Ralph A. Phelps Jr. in 1942. She was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood. She was the “first lady” of another Baptist School for 16 years before she and Dr. Phelps, Howard Payne president, came to the university March 1, 1980.
