Sports 1970 basketball Sweetheart Kathryn Kennedy 1969 football Queen football Season Opens With FOOTBALL BALLET—Edward Robinson i a 30-JO Victory Over Zarkton State The Howard Payne College Yellow Jackets opened their 1969 football cam- paign on a winning note when they posted a 30-10 win over the Tarleton State Texans in Stephenville. Danny Ehle, junior tailback, broke one record and tied another while leading the Jackets. Ehle, a 6-2, 210-pound junior from Houston, became the second run- ner in the Lone Star Conference's 35- season history to gain more than 200 yards in a single game. Ehle rushed for 215 yards and scored four touchdowns. Only Damon Smith, the HPC place- kicker, was able to get on the score- board along with Ehle. Smith con- tributed to the Jacket scoring effort with a field goal and three extra points. Another Jacket running back, James Harris, also had a good game against the Texans. He set up several scores with key runs. Harris is a senior from shot at pro ball. WMSU Aggies Wring jackets Zkeir first Defeat HPC—27Me—36 and woolie agamebofbthe 1969 grid campaign, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were nosed out by the Abilene Christian College Wildcats in HPC's of 36-27. Besides being a close, high- scoring affair from start to finish, the Paynemen to lose because tailback the year. All together, Ehle and the rest of the Jackets shattered four rec- ords in the ACC game. One was the play. Ehle accounted for this mark when he dashed 93 yards early in the game—261Y As q9 team, HPC posted 470 and 20. No other HP team has done that.
