Many of the noble men and women who went out to defend our nation will never return, but we shall not soon forget them. £ As an everlasting monument to them remain our memories— memories of how they went courageously forth sacrificing homes, opportunities, all they loved; memories of how they fought stubbornly on through the very hell of battle; memories of how they suffered hardships, were wounded, died; mem- ories of how they denied themselves to give the troubled world freedom from fear and aggression— To those who gave their all—though that all was even their very life-breath—we humbly dedicate this first peacetime Howard Payne Hall • . . elegant girls' dormitory made charming by Itg ivy and its occupants . . . The Student Council, composed of The Greater Council or the executive officers and the class presidents, is elected by the student-body and is representative of all stu- dent groups. The council works with the faculty of Howard Payne bringing the student- body into closer relationship with them. This year The Council sponsored a series of student programs and parties which met with tremendous success. The corps trip to Fort Worth in February to the T .W. C. game was under the direction of The Student Council. Every other Thursday this group directed the chapel programs. Their efforts were genuinely appreciated and the programs thoroughly enjoyed by all the student body. To this group of student-leaders whom we selected to represent us this year the student body pays tribute. How did we ever live through them . . . and the exami- nations? . . . We did live, though, and the fun we did have this year, eh? Remember those Friday night dates . . . and the convention trips . . . and the Hal- low'een Carnival? . . . They were fun, but our own Cultivated Campus Capers was strictly colossal! Will you ever forget The Rack- eteers' melodious renditions ... or the super- modern classroom ... or the romantic scene with its Famous Lovers? . . . This is one year that nothing less than Mass Amnesia could make us forget . . . and the scientists are too busy with the atomic bomb to invent any such disease! Remember the look on that freshman's face the night we im- pressed the green creature? . . . Were we, hazing freshmen? . . . Of course not ... at least, not much. We just say, As the twig is bent ... Sifting from our pipe- dreams the less drastic ideas, we have put together a book which we hope will meet with the approval of you, the studentbody. We ask only that you accept our efforts with patience and an understanding of our problems of production. Enough praise cannot be given the faithful, diligent workers who have sacrificed much that this book might be compiled. To them I wish to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation. I feel sure that from the student body also comes appreciation matching my own to these exceptional students who have given so freely of their time and energies. Finally to the faculty and student body who have assisted us this year we give our most sincere thanks. Without your help we should have not been able to progress.
