M. M. Barney Hale has initiated a program of intermural and physical educational activities that has appealed to all students. With the return of peace, former activities will be resumed under the direction of Coach McAdoo Keaton, Assistant Coach Hale, and Track Coach J. H. Cap Shelton. BOXING Elbert Yoes, Yellow Jacket Sophomore, was probably the classiest boxer in the middle-weight division of the Texas Golden Gloves this season. Yoes reoresented the Gold and Blue in the District Tournament held in Brownwood, where ho won in the Middle-weight championship and at Fort Worth where he battled his way to the last fight of the State semi-finals. Yoes came to Howard Payne from San Angelo, Texas where he received much of his training as an athlete. Elbert, a Yellow Jacket letterman has shown his ability not only as a boxer, but also as a in the 'ring.' attending Howard Payne. George Casey of the Bombardier team was high point man followed close by Dan Davis of the Todd Hall Saints squad. The Barn Beauties led by Elbert Yoes, the Todd Hall Saints, led by Eugene Barrow, and the Vultures, led by Bill Nelson, concluded the series with a three-way tie for second place. Although the season was short, the 'hard-wood' sport created considerable interest this year. 'Barney' Hale, director of the Baptist athletes, selected from the intermural squads a group of cagers that represented the 'colors' in a limited number of engagements with service teams.
