HUGGINS JOE BOB RUSHING BUSINESS MANAGER HARRY 0. COLE SILAS R. BYRD, Asst. MP-NP—U1 lite CrdUan' . 9dea It has been the aim of the entire staff as well as the editor to make this, the 1942 Lasso, a better book than has heretofore been published. Too much praise cannot be given to the members of the staff who have helped in producing this book. They have worked long hours, sacrificed pleasure, recreation, and study in order that this book might be completed. We have worked under serious handicaps which forced us to discard many of our ideas, but we have attempted to make a book that would mean much to every student on our campus. In this volume we have tried to picture Howard Payne from her newest activities, to her oldest traditions. Students! This is your book. We have worked with that in mind and if you like it, we ask no other reward. -HP — HP — HP— HP — HP — HP — HP — HP — GS AMNSOftTION FACMTY CLASSES FEATURE? Each individual should do his best. This is no time to fail in any kind of endeavor. There should be persistent striving toward the accomplish- ment of purposes and objectives. No one should be satisfied with accomplishments that fall far short of his maximum. One's performance should approach his capacity. There has been considerable evidence of seriousness of purpose on the part of our stu- dents during the current school year. A feeling of responsibility has been pronounced. Work has been pursued with a consciousness of immediate as well as remote objectives. Among the ideals which I have attempted to present, as well as exemplify before stu- dents for many years, are these: Do right. Do your best. I pass these principles on to you for the day in which we live. Very sincerely, Z. T. Huff {J. Skelton. WM. elan oj 1942 TO THE CLASS OF In addressing myself lo the Senior Class of 1942, I realize that what I say ought to be timely. I realize, further, that The conditions of our lives are abnormal. Economic affairs are out of joint. Political affairs are unstable. Social conditions are upheaval. International relationships are chaotic. These react upon us as individuals. We must keep constant vigil or else be engulfed and lose our way. The Senior Class of Howard Payne has come to the time when the individual members must go their several ways. Your associations here have been pleasant. These pleasant associations will be broken, and you will form new acquaintances and new associations. These new experiences will prove your worth. How well you meet the require- ments of society will depend upon your ability to make the right decisions and to adapt yourselves to new situations. From long associations with the college and with graduating seniors, I have had my faith in people strengthened. I watch our graduates with interest. College men and women are leaders. They become leaders because of their •capacity and their training. You are potential leaders. I shall be watching you. This is a high hour; meet it with high hopes in your own capacity. This is a realistic hour; meet it realistically. This is a crucial hour; meet it with determination. This is a brutal hour; meet it with courage. If you do these things, your future is assured, and you will take your places along with other Howard Payne men and women who have proved themselves worthy. I believe Sincerely yours. THOS. H.
