Yet this was not only a time for memories. Having passed the milestone of graduation, it was a time for thinking, dreaming, and hoping of the many new challenges and milestones to be met and passed. The seniors began arriving at Howard at 6:45 P.M., filled with excitement, sorrow, and happiness. Eight o'clock arrived sooner than anyone had expected. Then what followed now seems like another memory. The address was given by Miss Bertha Atkins, the Under Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare. The long-awaited diplomas were presented by Mr. John E. Yingling, Sr., Howard County Superintendent of Schools. Then the special awards were presented by Mr. Omar J. Jones, prin- cipal. The Valedictory and Salutatory addresses were presented by Marylane Yingling and Claire Lange, respectively. The Valedictory and Salutatory addresses were presented by Mary- lane Yingling and Claire Lange, re- spectively. The class song and Alma Mater were sung by the two hundred eight graduates. By this time many eyes were becoming tearful. The grand finale was the reces- sional. The graduates marched out proudly holding their diplomas. Marylane Yingling delivers the Valedic- tory address. First came our rings, we put them on And boy! did they look smart, And next in line was Homecoming, Where we took the biggest part. Our basketball team was really great, The best we ever had. They came in second in the state, Which made us very glad. Our senior trip the first of May, Surely was a sight. New York City was very grand, Though we got no sleep at night. The Senior Prom was marvelous, And so was our Class Night Featuring the sweetheart rose And our colors, green and white. And now we can reflect upon Our Graduation Day. It started a new life for us.
