In our associations with classmates during our school years, we learn how to work with others for a com- mon goal. At the same time we have an opportunity to follow our individual pursuits. Whether we continue our school- ing, ioin the Armed Forces, or ob- tain a iob we will protit from our experiences as a member of a team. CO-CAPTAINS JACKIE MILLER HERMAN WESSEL LARRY PETERS PAT BROWN Sec et P d t Vice President Treasurer r ary resi en THE HISTORY OF THE VARSITY Three seasons we have passed , One game we have done. 'Tis not important- Whether lost or whether won. We have lived and here shared Successes, sorrows, laughs. The school game is over- All take separate paths. Fundamentals we did learn As sophomores young and gay. Able coaches spurred us onward Toward the final victory day! As juniors we did find The game not quite so tough. Daily drill and determination And we could really show our stuff! Moving on to completion, We seniors felt a thrill. What lay in store for us? What was God's Holy Will? Patience, courage, sportsmanship For these we had fought. Our Varsity was prepared to face What e'er the morrow brought. Each of us skill had shown And earnest teamwork too. Each scoring point took work But now the game is through. Onward, onward we will go Forward we will climb. This game done, but more We'll meet in infinity of time. These activities give the members not only practical experience but also an insight into the field. Under the direction of Miss Annabelle Ferguson and Mrs. Hobbs, the F.T.A. publishes the Student Directory, takes field trips, holds an initiation banquet, sponsors the Farewell Ball, and provides a scholarship for a grad- uate member planning to enter the teaching profession. Girls at Howard High who are interested in nurs- ing as a career belong to the Future Nurses of America Club. In addition to learning about the various phases of nursing by listening to guest speakers and by touring hospitals, the girls participate in activities which are of service to the school and the community. Among these are Christmas caroling at convalescent homes, testing the eyesight and hearing of sophomores, making tray favors and scrapbooks for hospital patients, sponsoring the Snowball Dance, and pro- viding a scholarship for nurse's training. The members have taken several field trips to various business con- cerns, have had demonstrations on the modern office machines, and have done a fine iob of typing, stenciling, and mimeographing school and community publications. The preparation the girls received under this program will certainly help make them outstanding business leaders of the future. The members of the Future Homemakers of America, a club now in its third year here at Howard High, have worked very hard under their capable advisor, Mrs. Weatherholtz. Among the group's successful projects were collecting clothing and toys for a needy family, preparing and serving the F. T. AN CES Sponsored by the juniors, the Sweetheart Dance was held in February. The theme of the deco- rations was Lovebirds. The only dance of the year to which girls ask boys is the Snowball Dance, sponsored by the Future Nurses. A mobile of large snowflakes formed the center of the decorations. These gala occasions pro- vided an opportunity for nu- merous students to cooperate in planning and carrying out the theme of each dance.
