Executive Officer Commander W. Stokes Clark, Jr. attended the U. S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Mary- land, where he received the Bachelor of Sci- ence Degree and his naval commission in 1948. Commander Clark attended the U. S. Naval Submarine School in 1950 and three years later attended the Naval School of Naval Justice. Commander Clark has seen duty aboard USS ATLANTA lCl..-104i of the Pacific Fleet, and commissioned the USS SALEM CCA-l39l of the Atlantic Fleet. He also had duty on four submarines, USS TORSK lSS423l, USS ATULE lSS403l, the USS ANGLER fSS240l, where he served as Executive Officer, and USS SABLEFISH fSS303l, where he was Commanding Officer. He was Assistant Plans Officer, U. S. Submarine Base, New London from 1956 to 1958. As BuShips Project Of- ficer, Commander Clark worked in the Bell Telephone Laboratories, Whippany, New Jer- sey from 1960 to 1962. Before coming to GILMORE he was Academic Director, U. S. Naval Submarine School, New London from 1964 to 1966. Commander Clark is married to the former Katherine McCarthy of Winthrop, Mass.. They have five children, Elizabeth, Frances, Wyndham III, Virginia, and Nancy.

Commanding Officer Captain Rawlings assumed command of the USS HOWARD W. GILMORE CAS-161 on the 17th of August 1967. The GILMORE is Captain Rawling's third command. Born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland Captain Rawlings is the son of Mr. Frank Rawlings and the late Mrs. Frank Rawlings of South Cherry Grove Ave., Annapolis He entered the U.S. Naval Academy in 1941 graduated in 1944, and served two years aboard the aircraft carrier BENNINGTON. After completing the course of instruction, at the U.S. Naval Submarine School at New London in December 1946, he served where he served until July 1965, he reported to the Staff Commander Submarine Flotilla TWO as assistant Chief of Staff for Oper- ations and Plans for two years immediately prior to his present duty. Captain Rawlings married the former Frances Nash of Weldon, North Carolina in June 1944. They have two daughters, Trudy fMrs. James W. Adamsl of Lincoln Nebraska and Linda who attends Mary Washington College, University of Virginia. The Rawlings are presently residing in quarters at Charleston, South Carolina.. submarines COBBLER and RUNNER, fol- lowed by a tour as an instructor at the Naval Academy from March 1951 to June 1953. He then served as Executive Officer of sub- marine TUSK for two years. This was fol- lowed by command of submarines SARDA and GRENADIER from 1955 to 1958. From 1958 to 1960 Captain Rawlings served in the Guided Missile Division of the Chief of Naval Operations and on the staff of the Naval Ballistic Missle Committee. He then became the REGULUS and POLARIS operational planner on the Joint Strategic Target Planning Staff in Nebraska from September 1960 to July 1962. After this tour he attended the Naval War College Newport, Rhode Island from August 1962 to June 1963. After two years as Plans Officer on the Staff of Commander Submarine Force U.S. Alantic Fleet at Norfolk, Virginia, i
