COMMANDING OFFICER ' 0' WARD w GILMORE KAS-167 fflws , 'S USS HO . f V14 ' xx ' FPO NEW YORK 09501 P if Pifiiijgsgfi K WUClDu:iIIl-HUGE 4 X ,p 5, K , To All Hands: Do you recognize the Spanish phrase UEl gallo cacara a la salida ' del soln? Perhaps not, but its true meaning reflects, to a degree, how much most of us have enjoyed being in San Juan for Operation SPRINGBOARD Cl967j. Each of us will carry back memories, and though most of them are pleasant, as long as they remain locked within the mind they will in time fade away. A Cruise Book serves as a memory jogger--it provides a fresh lustre to fading memories and will help us to relive this fine cruise in the Caribbean. The photographer has taken a great many pictures, the draftsmen have provided the cartoons, the PAO has worked up the layout, and the printer has given you the finished product, To these dedicated people we awe a sincere Uwell doneH'for providing us with a fine cruise book. However, without good raw material a cruise book is an empty shell. Each of you has in some way provided an input. Perhaps it's only your picture, but that alone is highly acceptable to the making of a good Cruise Book--a book for all and about all the crewmembers of GILMORE. What memories will remain uppermost in your minds? For the Weapons Repair gang perhaps they will be the long hours of backbreaking work making weapons ready for the submarinesg for the engineers, perhaps of the acute fresh water problem, for Repair, perhaps of the relatively light work load, for Supply, just the oppositeg for others the memories are likely to be more personal, i.e., of sightseeing and picture taking, of that splendid beer hall on the dockside, of being thrown into the harbor as an advancement in rate initiationg and finally, someone may find the best memory locked in the Spanish phrase nEl gallo cacara a la Salida del soln.
