Beverly Wheeler, Big Spring, was selected first runner-up, with Lori Phinney, Coahoma, second runner-up. Sherri Blalack was voted Miss Congeniality by the contestants. The pageant began with the entrance of each girl wearing a baseball cap donated by the sponsor. The contestants then modeled their campus wear with confidence, moving into the swimsuit competition with courage, and ending with evening wear. The Howard College Jazz Lab Band contributed to the pageant by playing music while the girls modeled. Other entertainment, provided to give the girls time to change, included The New Dimension, directed by Joe Whitten, and members of Fantasy, performing songs in sign language. The Rodeo Team also contributed by demonstrating rope tricks. Melissa Luna accepts her title as Miss Howard College 1981. Mary Payte models campus wear during the HCJCD Women’s Association luncheon.
