FOREWORD This has been a year of transition at our college. Howard Count Junior College has been renamed Howard College at Big Spring. The sehool mascot has metamorphasized from a Jayhawk (whatever that was), to a real hve hawk. This transition is reflected in this annual, as copy reflecting HCJC or Jayhawk was sent to press before the changes were made. This issue of the Hawk differs from the old style Jayhawker in that it contains almost no professional photography. T. CLEMENTS DEDICA TION We wish to (Jeditate this yearbook to J. T. Clements (pictured on cover) who has taught science and spon- sored the annual since the conception of the college. The first annual was published in 1947, and repre- sented the class of ' 46 and ' 47. The dedication in the first issue of the JAYHAWKER was to the future advancement of Howard County .Junior College. The advancement of this college has depended to a large extent to the effort and quality teaching of Mr. Cle- ments. The Hawk Players spent many hours preparing ' Celebration ' . It was pre- sented in December and added spirit to the Christmas season. The Jayhawks sun not only illumi- nates and focuses on the skilled athlete, but also the spectator, challenging him to possess the spirit of competition.
