J ,I A S -X .' 7 'J-uf as 'Pr .. 'N Q-x Lord Macaulay ,once said when referring to a fellow man, 'His imagination resembled the wings of an ostrich. It en- abled him to run but not to soar. The age of discovery is not over. It will be over when we are content to run and not soar. Continued developments in the fields of science, medicine, literature, sociology, legislation and other related fields, are practically unlimited. Perhaps we can not all fly to the top in these fields, but we can all fly to the top in making a life. We can lift ourselves above the dross and humdrum of life with a stimulating imagination. The dreams of today are the realities of tomorrow. The school will continue to be interested in the develop- ment of the seniors of 1948. We will take pride in your achievements. It is our hope that you will continue to be in- terested in the Houston Public Schools, and that you will take pride in the achievements of your school. May you always insist on progress from your school and from yourself. Mrs. Coats, our high school principal, has been a member of the Houston school faculty for fourteen years. She came here first as English instructor. Later she be- came the grade principal and then finally her present position, Her genuine interest in her work and her sympathetic understanding of her stu- dents has endeared Mrs. Coats to the stu- dents of our school, We salute our administrators for their untiring efforts to make our school a pro- gressive, andthorough institution of learn- ing.
