Even after darkness the footsteps continue to re-echo within the halls of the school. The building again becomes alive with the excite- ment of a basketball game, the anxious anticipation of the rising curtain on the night of the senior play, or the delight and enchant- ment of the Junior-Senior Prom on a warm spring evening. To the Juniors-Our position as tall hogs at the trough. To the Sophomores-The confusion of making split decisions as ours were. To the Freshmen-The thrill of moving out to make room for more. Don Bashore wills his wise cracks to Wayne Phyllaier. Patty Bashore wills her cooking ability to Lelia Ike. Ed Chappie wills his good nature to Bert Shaner. Ronnie Cook wills his love for Dodges to Larry Francis. Judy Craft wills her musical ability to Dick Flinn. Mike Daniels wills his ability to skip school to Jack Ike. Bob Havenar wills his ability to go steady with one girl to Danny Johns. Joyce Johnson wills her careful driving ability to Becky Welch. Paul Lyons wills his bad luck with Chevrolets to Eldon Swabb. Judy Meyer wills her love for Buicks to Diana Parrinello. Shirley Meyer wills her secretarial ability to Marilyn Barhorst. Jim Millhouse wills the center of the forward bench while guarding the water bucket to Bob Delaet Russ Motter wills his ability to get in late to Larry Hall. Bill Rauch wills his Piqua girls to Roger Davis. Fred Roeth wills his scholarship ability to Tom Slife. Larry Slife wills his ability for telling jokes to Dave Polhamus. Patty Veit wills her ability not to get along with Miss Schaurer to Dorothy Block. Larry Werling wills his muscular strength to Gary Layman. D Class History September the second, the day that we started our first year at Houston and also our last. There were eleven of us then and eighteen now. On September 2, l948, the first grade beginners of the '59 class were: Patty Bashore, Ed Chappie, Ronnie Cook, Judy Craft, Joyce Johnson, Paul Lyons, Judy Meyer, Bill Rauch, Bob Snider, and Patty Veit. Ten of these beginners have remained with the class for twelve years,. but in our Junior year we were saddened by the death of our classmate Bob Snider. In the third grade Bob Havenar and Larry Werling came to Houston, while Ralph Saul and Jim Millhouse ioined us in the fourth. Donald Bashore moved in with us in the fifth grade. As our group grew in wisdom, so did it grow in size with Shirley Meyer ioining the class in the seventh grade. After eight years of school, we became the l956 Freshman class of Houston High School. We were greeted by Mr. Wagner, our advisor, and Larry Slife, who ioined us. Our officers for the year were: Fred Roeth, President, Joyce Johnson, Vice-President, Judy Meyer, Secretary, and Annette Frasure, Treasurer. That year the honor of being invited to the Junior-Senior Banquet went to Judy Meyer and Fred Roeth. In the spring we enioyed a picnic at the Fountain Park. Representing our school from the Freshman class at the State Scholarship Tests at Miami University were: Judy Craft and Joyce Johnson. With Mrs. Holl as our instructor, we entered our Sophomore year at Houston High. Officers for the year were as follows: Fred Roeth, President, Ed Chappie, Vice-President, Judy Meyer, Secretary, Bill Rauch, Treasurer. Joyce Johnson and Ed Chappie had the privilege of attending the Junior-Senior Banquet. The class had a skating party, sold pencils, and also name stickers to boost the treasury of our class. At the end of the year we enioyed a hayride to the Roadside Park. Judy Craft, William Rauch, and Fred Roeth attended the State Scholarship Test at Miami University from our class. The Junior year proved to be a very busy md happy one for our class which was 'oined by Russell Motter at the beginning of the year. First came the class play, Pleased to Meetcha, on October 24. ln April we honored the Seniors with a banquet and dance. Our class also sold candy at the home basketball games. All of this took place under the advisorship of Mrs. Bowen and our class officers who were: Ed Chappie, President, Bob Havenar, Vice-President, Fred Roeth, Secretory-Treasurer. Attending the State Scholarship Test from our class were: Judy Craft, Joyce Johnson, and Fred Roeth. On September 2, l958, our class became the upperclassmen at Houston High School. With our new classmate, Mike Daniels, we totaled nineteen, however, in the second semester Ralph Saul left our school. The officers for the year were: Ed Chappie, President, Bob Havenar, Vice-President, Joyce Johnson, Secretary, and Fred Roeth, Treasurer., Mr. Holl and Mrs. Hile counciled us as Seniors. This year we took our turn at publishing the Houstonian, the School Annual. We also presented the class play in March of '59. The Juniors gave the Junior-Senior Banquet in our honor in April. May 20, i959 rolled around only too soon as eighteen, happy, yet sad, Seniors of the Class of '59 received their diplomas. Members of our class have participated in many activities at our school. They are too numerous to mention, yet, there will always be somebody to take our place. As we think of the future we also think of our class motto: Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Joyce Johnson is glamorous, it's true, When there's work to be done, she knows iust what to do. And then there's Bob, who's famous for draggin', Who may someday wind up with a wrecked wagon. Judy Meyer presents no mystery, As she cheers our team on to victory. There's a boy in our class named Russell Motter , Who threw out 6 rods, but that's not what he told his Judy Craft who has all the brains. Makes the grades without any pains. And then there's Paul, who is real cool, Would rather go to the Spot, that to school. Eddie Chappie, who is really classy, Drives a little, black Chevy chassis. Fred Roeth is our basketball star, With his brains and good looks, he's bound to go far. father . Shirley Meyer has charm and spunk, She'll make a good wife for some poor punk. Bill Rauch on the sax is great, And with all the girls, he's first-rate. Pat Bashore, a blonde is she, An old maid she plans to be. Patty's friend Pat Veit, whose face is usually red, Thinks she's a whiz at making bread. Larry Slife, as far as we can see, A future gambler is what he'll be. Then comes Mike, who hailed from Ft. Loranie, Came to enforce our Seniors' Army. Jim Millhouse, who seems to be shy, Knows how to kiss his mone good-bye. Ronnie Cook has a dignified, look, But he never has his nose in a book. Last but not least, is Larry Werling who can't be beat, And when it comes to eating, its Cream of Wheatl By Ronnie Cook, Jim Millhouse, Mike Daniels, Paul Lyons, and Shirley Meyer Class Prophecy In May, 1969, the President of the United States announced his trip to the moon and the fact that he needed volunteers to go along. Russell Motter, now being the big wheel on the moon, decided to help us get a iob with him. When we all returned from the moon, we had to go back to the following iobs: Don Bashore - A frustrated grease monkey working at Stoleys. Pat Bashore - Has now become head secretary to Tommy Sands. Eddie Chappie - Head of the Irrigation Department of the Houston Rice Growers Association, who is giving Dean White stiff competition. Ronnie Cook - Head salesman of the Dodge division of the Chrysler Corporation in Houston. Judy Craft - A concert pianist who is now giving Liberace competition. Bob Havenar - President of Daohio Drag Strip. Joyce Johnson - Head beautician for the Apache Indian tribes. Paul Lyons - Now known as Sgt. Bilko Jr. of the Naval Department. Judy Meyer - Head of the Buick Division of General Motors. Giving Dodge stiff competition Shirley Meyer - Secretary for the Kant Ketch-em Mouse Trap Corporation of Houston. Jim Millhouse - The assistant coach's water boy to the Houston Globe Trotters. Russell Motter - Chief guide of Tours of the Moon. Fred Roeth - The manager and sole owner of the Tri-State Trucking Corporation. Bill Rauch - Barber for Fidel Castro in Cuba. lHe is now facing a firing squad.J Larry Slife - He now has control over legalized gambling in his cassino in Lockington. Patty Veit - Has now taken Betty Crocker's position at General Mills. Larry Werling - Owner of Shrivel's Muscle Development Gym. Mike Daniels - Owner and head mechanic of Houston's largest used car lot. Ralph Saul - A chauffeur for Kim Novak. Class Song Gonna graduate from our old High School, Gonna leave sometime in May. Gonna graduate from dear old Houston, What a sad and dreary day. We have had the finest, nicest teachers, They've put up with us twelve years. G Now we're leaving dear old Houston High School, Through a mist of joyful tears. Seven, got up every day at seven, From the first grade to eleven. Now the time is going fast. This game was a thriller with the Wildcats topping the Raiders 58-55. In the second game, Houston really showed some basket- ball skill downing the Fairlawn Jets 52-49 Then to climax the basketball season, the Botkins Troians fell victim to the Wildcats with a score of 66-57 to win for Houston the 1959 Tournament Championship.
