The Council consisted of twenty representatives, including eight seniors, six juniors, four sophomores, and two freshmen. Miss Meehan and Mr. Dorsett were faculty advisers for the group. Qualifications for membership in the club are reliability, interest in the operation of audio- visual aids, and scholastic eligibility. The purpose of the club is to provide a group of trained boys to operate and maintain the school's equipment. During the year the members take com- plete charge of programs in the individual classes. Members have operated equipment for nine hundred hlm showings, one hundred tape recordings, seventy- five slide films, one hundred and eighty-five sound re- cordings, and thirty-eight opaque projections. The club has also set up the assembly for special programs. Under the direction of Mr. Travis, experienced members were assigned to instruct new members in the techniques of operating the equipment. After a period of training, candidates have been assigned to classes along with an experienced operator. EEE hm us Standing, Left to Right: J. Maccagnan, W. Platt, O. Stackelberg, Mr. Eldridge, F. All new members who did not know how to play chess were taught the subtle intricacies of the game before a club tournament was set up. The tour- nament, which consumed most of the year, operated on a basis whereby each person played each other member three times. I'he club selected a team to represent it in all outside matches, Any club member could attain a position on the team by defeating one of the team members in two games out of three. The club is designed for persons of all classes who would like to learn and partake in games of skill. A person is not required to know chess in order to enter the club, he must have only the desire to learn and co-operate. Standing, Left to Rightt R. Dotson, J. Teeple, V. Farrell, W. Curtis, C. Washington High succumbed to the Gold and Blue the following Friday, 56-22, to advance our winning streak to four games. The Regional five once more played the kind of ball it was capable of playing by routing Williams High at Stockbridge, 64-45. At the outset of the contest, the shooting of co-captains Miller and Thurston was superb. Washington High became victims of the Gold and Blue for the second time in three games. After a poor showing in the first half, the Reggies triumphed, 50-27. By a score of 39-35, Simsbury stopped Regionals winning streak which had carried the team through four league games. Simsbury capitalized on the poor playing of the Gold and Blue to get revenge for their defeat in the first game of the season. The Gold and Blue qualified for the CIAC class S tournament by getting by Terryville, 48-45, in an exciting contest on our home court. Frank Miller threw in shots from all places and at all angles to pace the winners with 23 points. The rebounding of Fred Gobillot and Pete Kenny was also outstanding. Thomaston, which had clinched the league championship on january 26, conquered Regional, 63-52, in game number fourteen of the season. Thomaston led throughout and stopped numerous Regional rallies. Regional conquered Amenia High in the next contest, 52-44. Watertown High, red-hot, upset the Gold and Blue, 42-35, at the Watertown court, thanks to a grand total of two points thrown in by Regional during the last quarter. The Reggies at one time did not score for eight minutes, while Watertown played a possession game in the second half. In the final contest the Gold and Blue racked Litchfield, 61-50, Peter Kenny tossed in 14 points while Fred Gobillot garnered 13. This gave Regional a record of eleven wins and six defeats. For the tournament contest played at New Britain, Regional drew top-seeded Morgan High of Clinton for the opening round. For five consecutive years, Regional teams had gone to the tourney, only to lose their initial game. The Gold and Blue gave Morgan a battle and could have won but missed the boat by blowing easy shots. The Morgan team controlled the boards as they won, 44-35. Miller's floor play and Gobillot's 16 points were the bright features for the Regional side . Peter Kenny and Fred Gobillot were elected co-captains for the 1951-52 squad.
