PREFACE ' We, the tenth graduating class to leave the Housatonic Valley Regional High School, are proud to present this, the 1949 edition of The White Oak. Our four years spent here are now a part of the pastg yet this part will not be forgotten. It will continue in the ideas and ideals which the school has instilled in us. We trust that this book will serve as a pleasant reminder of our many happy days at HVRHS. We are deeply indebted to Miss Gesell and the commercial department, the Editorial and Business Boards and their advisers, Mrs. Camp and Mr. Just, for their untiring efforts to make this year book a success. We also wish to acknowledge the competent services rendered by T. O'Toole and Sons, our publishers, and the Loring Studios, out photographers. ' EUGENE j. O'MEARA, Editor-in-Chief. 1 3

DEDICATION It is with a deep sense of appreciation that we, the class of forty-nine, dedicate our book to Mr. Edward C. Dorsett. As one of our guidance advisers, he has provided us with three years of beneficial assistance. Mr. Dorsett received his B.S. degree from Mansfield, Pennsylvania, State Teachers College in 1929, and his M.A. from Duke University in 1936. Mr. Dotsett was a teacher at the Sharon High School from 1937 until 1959. At that time he joined the faculty of the Housatonic Valley Regional High School. In 1943 he left the Regional High School to become Principal of the James Morris High School, and in 1946 returned to Regional as Vice-Principal. I 2
