the 1963 Bobcat THE HOUGHTON LAKE BOBCAT DONATED BY MORRIS AND JESS STANLEY MOUNTED BY FRANKLIN SOULTS Presented by THE HIGH SCHOOL CONSERVATION CLUB OF 1956-57 HOUGHTON LAKE HIGH SCHOOL HOUGHTON LAKE, MICHIGAN Dedication We, the graduating class of 1963 of Houghton Lake High School, with abiding respect and cordial regard, dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Gaukel, a wise woman, a far-seeing philosopher, and an inspir- ing teacher. We shall never forget our Mrs. G. and the knowledge, 2 inspiration, and humor she gave to us. Superintendent Superintendent, DONALD MEYER May I extend congratulations to the 1963 Senior Class on behalf of the Houghton Lake Board of Education and myself. I believe that you, as a graduating senior class, are finally coming to grips with a truism of human life, to become a part of your en- vironment as an independent, self-reliant individual. To some of you there will be additional formal education; but all of you will re- ceive an informal education for the rest of your lives. How well you learn your les- sons and use them as guide posts will determine your whole future life. To the Senior Class of '63 I wish the very best of luck. Sincerely, 4 Donald P. Meyer Superintendent Principal Principal, JAMES H. CAPITAN I would like to congratulate you, the Class of 1963, on having completed one of the most important plateaus in your careers. A vast amount of knowledge has been accumulated, by you, throughout your school years, along with many memories and experiences that will never be forgotten. The amount of formal education and social training that you have received cannot be taken away from you. This education has formed the background and reservoir from which you must draw in order to make everyday decisions and plans for the future. There is no doubt that a high school graduate is better equipped today to meet the prob- lems and demands of society. A high school graduate has a better chance of succeeding in his job, furthering his education, business or any other field of endeavor. Again, I would like to congratulate you, wish you all the success and prosperity in the fu- ture, and above all, to arouse your initiative to become the leading and active citizens in the community in which you choose to live. Sincerely, James H. Capitan Principal 5 Board of Education Left to right: James F. Dougherty, Donald R. Boyer, Wm. R. Webb, Donald P. Meyer, Dr. Virgil M. McClintic, John A. Pifer, Mrs. Margaret H.
