THE 1960 BOBCAT HOUGHTON LAKE HIGH SCHOOL HOUGHTON LAKE, MICHIGAN DEDICATION The Annual Staff wishes to dedicate the 1960 yearbook to the businessmen of our community. It was they, who made the publication of the BOBCAT possible. To them goes our sincere thanks and gratitude for all the help they have given us through the past years. ADMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT Superintendent, G. L. EDSON Congratulations to the” Class of 1960 on the successful completion of your high school ca- reers. I trust that the many experiences you have had while in school have given you a founda- tion upon which you may meet and conquer future problems is a tribute not only to yourselves, but to all young people of your generation. May the cooperation and generosity you have shown here continue to be the rule and guide of your conduct throughout your lives. Your interest, enthusiasm, courage, and determination have made Houghton Lake a better school for the boys and girls who will follow you. Take these splendid qualities with you wher- ever you may go. I wish for each of you a life full of success and happiness. Sincerely, G. L. Edson, Superintendent PRINCIPAL Principal, DONALD MEYER Education is the one most worthwhile commodity an individual can obtain. It cannot be lost or stolen, but can be shared with others. As Seniors of the 1960 graduating class, you have just passed through a training period of 12 short years. You will use and reuse what you have gained many, many times during the next 50 years of your life. For some, education is finished. For others, it is only a foundation to future building. To all, it is a force that can be projected into a happy and prosperous future. Education has been the foundation in the past, and it will have greater prominence in the years ahead. May I congratulate you on your achievements, and hope this is just the beginning of a suc- cessful life for all of you. Donald Meyer, Principal SCHOOL BOARD GEORGE WOOTTON, Trustee; GILMORE L. A DAY IN THE KITCHEN In answer to your question: I’ll tell you in rhyme; How five in the kitchen, can spend all their time; Seven Thirty A.M. we tie on our aprons; and stick out our chins, For a day in the kitchen, is about to begin; Wipe up the tables; put out the dishes; Deliver each basket to the end of the hall, Bake prune cake for 500 and hope it don’t fall. Beans on a-boiling, they'll be done never fear, Sandwiches to make, the bread man not yet here. Twenty menu's have been printed; still throughout every day, We're asked forty times what do we eat today - We have turkey roasted, boiled, stewed, and steamed; Cold turkey, raw turkey and turkey ice cream. Dinner about ready and just as the giggling help, opens up full throttle. Crash, down the hall a broken milk bottle. The line moves quickly on with no end in sight. We hear lots of what that, see some finicky appetites. We take in some cash in very small amounts. We don't do much work, but we get awfully tired. We'll be back next year; unless we get fired.
