These have been full years -- years full of activ- ities, joys and disappointments, excitement and discouragement; through all, however, has run a continous strain of happiness that has made a rich imprint upon lives. We have earnestly endeavored to present a pictorial history of high- lights of the year's activities in these pages of the 1955 BOBCAT. Now, we, not without some feeling of reluctance, prepare to go. Others come forward to take the places that we have held as citizens of Hought on Lake High School. Time Marches on! THE VILLAGE THE HEIGHTS PRUDENVILLE In appreciation for our school buildings, and our school system, we, the BOBCAT Annual Staff, feeling lucky to live in such a co-operative com- munity, wish to dedicate this issue of the BOBCAT to our parents, to our teachers, and to allthe people of Houghton Lake who have made our graduation possible, Back row; Co-Editor, Beverly Akin; Editor, Mary Fouty. To start off the quarter we had pie sales for four weeks and sold them during the noon hours, In Miss Marshall's English class, the members put on a hillbilly play in which we charged admission. The play brought many laughs as well as a profit to our treasury. Our team athletes are well on the way to victory with their wonderful job of ball-playing,. Entering the second quarter we had a score of fifty-three mem- bers, Dean Ellis was elected team captain, This year the new Freshies received their big foul from us. As well as high sports honors, we took top honors in the annual fall carnival float contest. We kept good pace in bringing up the treasury score by sponsoring dances during the year. In the spring we held a Sophomore Sock s oa a Hop which drew a large crowd and with that we ended our quarter. We moved into a fast moving third quarter by adding many points to our treasury, We chose our class colors, maroon and white; class flower, tinted carnation; and class motto, The Door to Success is Labeled Push, With fifty-four members and our team captain, Bill Julian, we represented much activity in sports. The girls’ undefeated basketball season shows for their hard work, Going on, our Junior Play, entitled One Wild Night, under the direction of Mrs, Wenig, certainly proved a great success, “Destination Moon, our Junior Prom, drew a large and colorful crowd. We bade good-bye to the Seniors with Aloha, the Junior-Senior Banquet, It was here and also at Commencement that we felt that first feeling of victory. The fourth and final quarter was just as fast moving as the third, Earl Burley did a wonderful job acting as captain of our team of forty-seven, Starting off, we sold maga- zines for six weeks with the girls coming out ahead of the boys. Our next time out event came with the Senior play entitled Off the Track, under the successful direction of Mr. Rees, Sandra Stuck and Ruth Bell well represented our class as queen candidates at the Sno-Ball, The most long-awaited-for event finally arrived. We spent ten wonder- ful and exciting days in Washington and all the other cities and towns of many sight-see- ing tours, With the trip over, we came home to something that seemed years off in our Freshman year, The Juniors bade,us a very nice good-bye at the Junior-Senior Banquet, Class Night brought many laughs and Baccalaureate ser- vices, inspiration, Graduation night arrived with tears and joys of many, Yes, our game is over and we have won, Now it's up to each one of us to start all over and bring in a victory of our own, Class Will We, the class of 1955 do hereby make the following bequeaths: To any future Senior class we will our ability to stay out of trouble, Bev Akin wills her good marks in Speech to anyone who thinks they can get better ones, Tom Akin wills his center position on the basketball team to Herb Smith, Bernard Anderson wills Fern Streff to the Sophomore boys, Pat Belill wills her job at Kronners to Penny Rogers and Cecile Wilber.
