Being a member the first class to graduate from the old Foughton Lake High School in the year 1927 and a member of the current faculty we feel he is most deserving of the Konor. Mr. Howe is one of the most popular and understanding teachers on the faculty.” He is never too busy to pass along advice and to lend a helping hand whenever needed. S. and started our high school career. The first and largest event of the year, for us, was initiation. Our class officers were: President, Harold Bowman; Vice President, Jack Langthorn; Secretary, Virginia Hanneman; Treasurer, Stan Lowes Miss Gudmendsen was our class advisor that year. We gave our parties and such and the upper-classmen said they thought we could make it through those long four years we had ahead.of us. It was back again in 47 for most of us, only this time we were Sophmores and a little higher up in the world. Mr. Sherwood was the bossman that year and again we did all right. We put on our Spring Festival which went over very nicely. We choose the following as our class officers: President, Jim Bosley; Vice President, Jack Langthorn; Secretary and Treasurer, Carol MacDonald. Also, that was the year we gave our first Sno-Ball. As Sophmore candidate, for Snow Queen, we picked Nel- da Sharrow. Next on the list came the Juniors, and that was us. With Mrs. Wenig as our advisor we could hardly go wrong. As Junior candidate for queen we put up Char- maine Rohn, who was crowned Miss Houghton Lake. Our class officers that year were: President, Bob Smith; Vice President, Jack Langthorn; Secretary, Camilla Howe; Treasurer, Marilyn Hole. Our Junior Play Good Morning Glory was a smash hit so we continued on. We gave the Junior-Senior Banquet and then the Prom. Finally our class rings arrived. We had about given up hope of ever getting them. Then came Baccalau- reate and Graduation, when we marched in with the Seniors. We certainly were a proud bunch of Juniors. Suddenly it was here. Our Senior year at last. Miss Houghton took over the job of coaching us along. Our class officers were: President, Dwight DePotty; Vice President, Dick Chapin; Secretary, Camilla Howe; Treasurer, Helen Seward. The Senior candidate for Snow Queen was Violet Peterson. Our play Seventeen Is Teriffic ” was teriffic. The banquet the Juniors gave for us was wonderful, every- one had a swell time, especially the Seniors, you should have’ seen us. Last but not least--Baccalaureate and Commencement. We, of course, enjoyed these two events much more than did anyone else. Yes, that was what we had. been waiting for in these last four years, and at last it had come. To us it didn't seem possible that we could really be graduating. But it was and we were glad. Now, all the Seniors of 50 join together in wishing the underclassmen all the fun we had in high school.” And as we go our separate ways, we will always remem- ber the swell times in good ole Houghton Lake High. A talented class has made a grand start in its High School career. VARSITY BASKETBALL The Houghton Lake Bobcats, although said to be a preen team, went on to. have a better than-averags season. The team was haripered throuchout the season by the lack of heigth.and sdeauate experience. However they did manage to take second Dlece in the conference and made a rood showing for themselves in the games they did participate in. In the District Tournament the bobcats were defeatedby a strong Marion team in an overtime period. Although they were defeated the bobcats played good ball and did not feel too bad because of the loss as the Marien team went on to win the District Championship. Lake High School had a rather unsuccessful season as they won only three games and lost four while tying one. Although they did not win all of their games it was understandable as they played some of the out— standing teams in the state. On the list of defeats there was such schools as Reed City, Ithica, Evart and Lake City. All of these schools were rated very high in the state ratings. : In compiling their records the Bobcats rolled up a total of 109 points as against their opponents 92. In winning two of their games the Bobcats piled up the score of 38 and 40 to O against Farwell and ‘lest Branch respectively.
