In their first meeting they elected Noyle Doty as President; Al Detmer, Vice-President; Sandra Newell, Secretary and Sally Schummer Treasurer. As Freshmen they began at once to take part in all school activities and made their debut at the annual Initiation Party. The following year Mr. Sherwood took over as class advisor. Officers were; Mewey Seehase, President; Skip Bachelor, Vice President; Bob Ancel, Secretary; Norma Pringle, Treasurer, Al Detmer, Student Council Representative. This year we were on the giving end of the Freshmen Initiation and the party was judged one of the most successful ever given. Even at this stage our boys were making their mark in the athletic field having representatives on all teams. Mr. Gerard had the thankless task of advising the class during the Junior year. At the first meeting they elected Frank Knapp as President; Ernie Brancheau, Vice President; Joy Allen, Secretary-Treasurer, and Dewey Seehase, Student Council Representative. In April they presented to a full house their Junior Play A Mind of Her Own under the direction of Mrs. Wenig. High- lighting the year was the Annual J-Hop held at Johnson's Rustic. They also entertained the Seniors at the Junior-Senior banquet in May. At last they bacame mighty Seniors. Their advisor was Miss Houghton and Frank Knapp again was President; Harlan Robinson, Vice-President; Liz Hildreth, Secretary; Norma Pringle, Trea- surer; Dewey Seehase, Student Council. In November they presented Three Blind Nates as their Senior Play and it was a real hit. All through the year they worked hard selling pop corn, candy, etc., at noon and at all athletic events to swell their Treasury. Now that they are departing, they leave all the honor and responsibility of the Green and White of Houghton Lake to the classes which will follow them. May they always remember that He Le He S. deserves only the best. With the opening of school, they elected Bob Smith as President; Jack Langthorn Vice-President; Camilla Howe, Secretary; Marilyn Hole, Treasurer; Jim Bosley, Student Council Representative. Mrs. Wenig served as class advisor. The Juniors were extremely proud of their contestant for the Sno-Ball, Charmaine Rohn, who was crowned Queen over eight other contestants and won the right to represent Houghton Lake at the Winter Carnival in Grayling. On April 22nd the class Play Good Morning Glory , under the direction of Miss Muntz, was presented to a packed house and scored a big hit. The high-point of the year was that big social event--the J-Hop held May 13, spew dhs closely by the Junior-Senior Banquet on May 19th. A large and spirited class, they have added to the student body in the way of all activ- ities. As usual, the first duty of the class was to elect officers. At this meeting Norma Baxter was chosen President; Bob Shadron, Vice-President; Debra Tift, Secretary; Nancy Blumerich, Treasurer. Bob Shadron and Doris Beneke were elected as Pep Club members and to represent the Sophomores in Student Council were Norma Baxter and Elwin Knapp. Mr. and Mrs. Lantzsch were Advisors. To start off the activities we held the traditional Initiation Day for Freshmen. After subjecting them to many indignities during the day, we feted them at a most successful dance in the evening. During the entire year the class sold school supplies to supplement the Treasury. Nancy Blumerich represented the Sophomores at the Snow Ball and made a most charming con- testant. Many of the members have been active in all activities, especially athletics. The class of 151 may indeed be proud of a fine year. FRESHMEN CLASS The Freshmen chose Carol Bosley to pilot them in their first year in Senior High School. To assist her, Chuck Palm was elected Vice-President; Joan Bowman, Secretary and Jim Olsen, Treasurer. Mr. Howe and Miss Muntz were the advisors. The high point for all Freshmen was Initiation Day at which time they were thoroughly subdued by the Sophomore Class. Joy Ennis was elected Freshmen representative at the Snow Ball and many Frosh were among the committee members who helped to make it a success. On April lst the class entertained the rest of the school at a April Fool's party. An energetic and resourceful class is on its way towards a colorful career in Senior High. FIRST TEAM The Houghton Lake Bobcats--coached by R. A. Newell and Champions of the Conference, pistrict Regional and Invitational Meet--had the most successful year in Houghton Lake's history. Quring regular season play they dropped only two games--one to Kalkaska and one to a strong Class B Cadillac team. During Christmas they swept the Invitational Meet held at Houghton Lake gym defeating Kalkaska, West Branch and Tawas City. Other teams competing were Roscommon, Grayling, Pincon- ning and Gladwin. In the District Tournament the Bobcats rolled over McBain, Lake City, and Marion to earn the right to compete in the Regionals at Mt. Pleasant. There they trounced Fulton and Sterling to become the First Regional Champions in the history of the school. They finished the season losing to a fast Hart team in the State Quarter-Finals held at Big Rapids. : RUSS NEWELL'S FIRST TEAM HOUGHTON LAKE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT He Le Opponet Mecember 28, 29, 30, 31st. ; 32 39 Cadillac 45 20 Harrison He Le Opponet } 22 18 McBain Lo 36 Tawas City 43 29 West Branch 47 3h West Branch 20 16 Lake City Fie) 35 Kalkaska hl 20 Harrison 4o 32 Roscommon HOUGHTON LAKE DISTRICT 56 30 Kalkaska TOURNAMENT NO. 57 he 34 Merritt March 2, 3, 4, and Sth. 62 30 Merritt 33 35 Kalkaska He bles Opponet Fie) 14 Lake City Ts 26 McBain yl 16 McBain 41 21 Lake City 60 23 Manton 57 41 Marion | 53 26 Roscommon q i MT. Dropping only two games--one to a non-con- ference Cadillac team and one to Kalkaska, they showed great power in downing all the other teams. Realizing that most of this years first team are Seniors it is good to know that many members of this reserve squad will be ready for first team competition next year. After overpowering a Harrison six 17-9, the Lassies dropped two straight-- to McBain 19-29 and the return game with Harrison. Getting back into the win column, -they defeated Kalkaska here 20-19, but the following week lost to Merritt 11-13. In the return match with Kalkaska, Houghton Lake was overcome 10-16. The last two games were wins over McBain 22-19 and Merritt 22-9. The team this year was composed almost entirely of under-classmen and therefore should make an even better showing next year. The club met every Monday night. Among the various subjects studied were Developing, enlarging, and camera care and repair. Then they met the Lake City team forthe Conference Championship. The game ended with the Bobcats ahead by one touchdown.
