Out of 1' total of nine games. the team encountered seven setlmac-ks. The remaining two games ended in a 7-7 tie with Haneoek and 1- lil-03 victory over the Ontonagon Polar Bears. During' the season. the team traveled to Marinette, XVisconsin. where they played a niprht game with the strong' Marinette Hiprh St-hool eleven. Although the Hougrhtonites were defeated lay a 32-tl sc-ore, the boys gave all they had. Houg:hton's team had the disad- vantage of being outweighed. Bill Peltier was selet-ted as right taelile on the Popper Country All-Star eleven. Hank Hohlra. an eo-vaptain ot' the Houghton eleven. was Chosen as a halflmaek and hon- orary captain on the All-Star second team. Ayoub and Caspary alternately filled the Vacant position. The 1940 class B district tournament was held in the school gymnasium for the first time in the history of the Houshton High School. Hanc0ck's Crimson and Gold nosed out Houghtorfs Orange and Black by a 17-16 score to win the tournament. Melvin XYiitanen, one of Houghton's scoring' aces, was chosen as a guard and also as captain of the All-Tournament team. y Houghton placed one player on each of the three Conference All-Star teams.
