Field trips not only add to our botanical knoweldge but afford pleasant excursions as well. Dr. Wightman has shown that physics is an important department of science, too. By intro- ducing major courses in atomic physics, he has widened Houghton's scientific horizon. The basement location of our chemistry depart- ment has no significance inthe importance of this science. The assiduous work of Miss Bur- nell and Dr. Reese serves to keep it well in the foreground with, its sister sciences. Those of us who are interested in math, whether for its scientific implications or for teaching in high schools, find Dr. Luckey and Mrs., Moon capably charting our ways through this law-abiding science. No calculus involved this time George E. Moreland, Ph.D. Division Chairman division of i science We have in our Division of Science and Mathe- matics a group of science-minded Christian men and women who are not afraid of conflicting scientific claims and doctrines. We need not hesi- tate to seek their counsel on evolution or atoms. Because their faith and lives are grounded in the Word of God, they are not swayed by men's theories and postulations. Dr. Moreland, head of the division, never ceases to amaze his zoology students. Possessor of a vast amount of knowledge, he has systematized his thinking so that his wealth of lecture ma- terial never seems to be exhausted. His c'lasses provide sensible suggestions for Christian living as well as scientific information. 4 An exacting Botanist, Dr. Rork is also well in command of her field.
