division of theglqgy and christian education Ethel Foust, A.M., M.R.E. George E. Failing, A.M. The ministry, the mission field, and the sphere of Christian Education make up the three-fold emphasis of our Division of Theology and Chris- tian Education. The aims of our professors in the departments of this division are to train young people, who know Christ, to make Him known, by giving them a thorough understanding of the Bible, its background, and its application to life in this age. Dr. Hall's philosophy courses challenge our thinking, Mr. Wright's theology 'course provides a basis of belief. Miss Foust widens our world view of the needs of children and the mission fields. ' Our Division of Theology and Christian Edu- cation is one of the most important for it enables us to establish a reason for the hope that lies within us. ' Bert H. Hall, Th.D. Frank H. Wright, A.M. diwfision of languages Leroy Fancher, A.M. Ruth W. Markell, A.B. Division Chairman Dr. Ries checks some of those voluminous Old Testament papers, Pierce E. Woolsey, Ph.D. and literatures Erma Steinacher, A.B. F. Gordon Stockin, A.M. fHoughton's language professors are, by virtue of subject matter, personality, and presentation of material, totally different. These differences often precipitate various student arguments over which teacher .is the best. ' Quiet Dr. Woolsey extolls the virtues of la pl1fS belle langue, French, mainly by the SOCIZFIC method of teaching. Effervescent Mr. StOCk1I1, renowned for his sympathy with, language-de' ficiency students, glories in the consistency and orderliness of his classics. Amiab1e'Mr. Fanchel' explains the intricacies of his German with the utmost patience and forbearance, while MIFS Steinacher ably pinch-hits for Senorita A11C121 Pooln who is matriculating in Mexico. The unifying factor here is, of course, Jesu-S Christ, whose power remains the same regardlf-ISS of what language a person speaks. l 6

division of histol- education and Frieda A. Gillette, Ph.D. Acting Division Chairman Bessie M' fa . Zola K- Fancher, A.B. Carolyn Ki-ehbiel, A.B. By emphasizing a knowledge of the values of past generations, our history department claims that we may be able to judge those of our own age. Dr. Gillette often astounds us by pulling a geneological table from thin air. Her emphasis on current events, as related to the particular courses, makes the classes both stimulating and practical. Mr. Williams, in his quiet but forceful way, impresses us with the dearth of our histori- cal knowledge. - The excellent record of our teaching alumni Nels00v RN' 1 Mr. Williams answers some post class questions.
