OTTO F MONAHAN Otto F Monahan Duectoz of Athletics and Head Coach from 1896 to 1938 died on June 6 1942 at the age of 69 As monuments to his many years of loyal service and careful plan ning stand the playing fields and the gymnasium and a long line of winning teams and distinguished athletes testifies to his skill as a coach But his chief monument is the character he built mto the llves of generations of Hotchkiss boys He un falllngly insisted on vlgozous play and the high est ideals of sportsmanship He ealned the re spect and affection of all who worked oi played under his direction and his klndlv lYltGlQSt and enthusiastic cheer fulness endeared him to all who knew him No man has ever made a gieater or more enduring contilbutlon to the llfe and character of the school G P M CLYDE F. GRANT Clyde F. Grant familiarly and affectionately known to his colleagues as Gen was born in Fort Fairfield Maine July 11 1880. His whole life after graduating at Bowdoin College in 1904, was given to teaching. He has been an increas- ingly valuable member of the Hotchkiss Faculty since 1907, teaching boys French, clear thinking, clean living, and high purpose. A Sabbatical year failed to restore his health, and he passed peacefully June 8, 1942. His going is an incalcu- ably sad loss to family, friends, and school. J. G. E. l l Page eleven
