VN 1 il Long, long ago Many, many moons before now There was neither town nor people- Only just a lovely valley Nestling here between blue mountains. From the hillside waters bubbled, Steamed with magic powers of healing. Known beyond the great wide river, Known beyond the shining mountain Were the valley and its waters. All the Indians journeyed to them From the .south in Louisiana Came Conshattas, worn and wearyg Creeks crime in from Alabama: Mississippi sent the Choctaws And the Tunicas and Hournas. Cherokee and Quapaw Indians Came to cure their rheumatisms. Kickapoos fthe inspiration Of that famous drink called joy juice , Came a trooping in and sat down, Dangling feet into the water. Up sprang Cherokees and Quapaws, Gettum feet out of that water! You get up and move along there. ' Angry Kickapoos got war paint And began a mighty battle. All the other Indian tribes, too, joined the needless fight: thus, warfare Marred the face of Peaceful Valley. But a wise old Indian chieftain Saw the useless. endless bloodshed And made truce among his people, Taught them not to hate their brothers So they made a solemn peace pact Saying there would be no war here. Enemy would sit with enemy: Foe and foe would smoke the peace pipe. So they sa! around the campfire, Learning one another's language, Learning one another's customs, Learning how to live with others. Now the Indians have zfanishedi And today upon this hilltop Gather we again together, Learning how to Iiue with others. Gather round us, everybody! Even as the Indian warriors Told their deeds to one another, lVe shall tell you of this high school And the fun and work and friendship That we all haue known together. Listen to our song-our story. 9 X, A u I T'A x 'm X,,-fi!! Qfy-.7 5102 Q72 9 I-by X fx f 'Eff' M W E 4Wili1f9, ! x f lw il Wxf ' in silk 3 z' I K VX x R A, X E, 1. Head Coach Charles Dub McGibbony and Line Coach Duval Thornton started the sea- son with thirty-three small and inexperienced football players and finished the season with thirty-three small but much more experienced players who had won for Hot Springs its first Big-Six Conference game since the conference was started three years ago. The Trojans opened the season by bowing to the Greenville Hornets of Mississippi by the score of 40-28. joe Thomason ran a kick-off back 89 yards for the first Trojan score Billy joe Oliver and Clyde Hart provided the other two Trojan tallies on short runs. In the next game the Men of Troy had an easy time in skunking the Arkadelphia Badgers 39 0 The next fracas proved to be somewhat the same, as the Troy Boys took the scrap out of the Nashville Scrappers by a 36-13 score. Mc- Mahan, Hart, and Oliver did the scoring for this game. McMahan also surprised the fans by kick- ing a 20-yard field goal, the first completed here in many seasons. Their first Big Six game was with the Little Rock Tigers, who handed the Trojans a 46-6 drubbing at Tiger Stadium. Pontius, on a pass I -T- ' 0 Horace Duke jim YVoodall Myron Zebrak Halfback Tackle Halfback from McMahan, accounted for Hot Springs' six points. The North Little Rock Wildcats came to Hot Springs unscored-upon and returned having been held to a 7-7 deadlock. This was the first time the Trojans had not been defeated in a Big-Six game in three years. The Trojans traveled to Malvern to take their third non-conference victory. The Leop- ards provided much needed practice for the Trojans as they were dropped 35-0. Thomason, McMahan, and Geurin took scoring honors for H.S. After a hard fought and very close game, the Trojans came out on top of a 21-I9 score against the Fort Smith Grizzlies. This was a well deserved first Big-Six victory for Hot Springs after three years and twelve attempts. joe Thom- ason scored on a pass from Mckfahan to start the Trojan scoring. Clyde Hart made the re- maining two touchdowns. In another Big-Six tilt,' the El Dorado Wild- cats won over the Trojans 32-20. The Trojans' final win was over the non- conference Forrest City Mustangs 19-7. The annual Turkey Day classic ended with Hot Springs on the bottom end of a 21-14 score. The Pine Bluff Zebras, Big-Six champions, had a hard time beating the Trojans in their final game of the season.
