9 ty O ,Maria As we enter the doors of H S H S little do we realize the part music will play in our school lives that all our Joyful experiences and sad moments will find expression in music the excitement of pep as semblles with the band setting the tempo the homecomlngs when we sing the Alma Mater with a new awareness the Candlelight Service with the majestic beauty and humble reverence of the carols all the joyful exuberance of spring reflected in the Spring Concert and then the ch max of the year the un1orSen1or Prom with the muted music casting ILS eternal romantic spell All this IS muslc music in lts truest senst But theres another kind of music the music of 1 group studying the scratch of pencil on paper and the whispered consultations blending of study hours past 'Iheres the music of greetings in the hall tht shouted hello s rising to a Crescendo of sound then subsidlng to a friendly murmur only to arise anew like a composition in Jazz Theres the music of the class in session the teacher s voice heard over the class like the overlying theme of a symphony with the students voices supplying the unconsciously heard but ever important background melody This IS the music that we take with us when we sing the Alma Mater for the last time and realize that we stand on the threshold of a new world facing the challenge it offers Well take that challenge with a song m our hearts' ,shui Page 3 . . . ., into a musical hum that prevails over the class like a benevolent ghost P
