E., Universitv of Tennessee Mr. Elmore, do future Trojans have to play touch football? Does watching 'birdies' fly through the air make me eligible for the track team? Miss Davidson, I swear that my big toenail is split and I just can't play ping pong. The boys count up the score after a game of shuffleboard. Trying to make a needed point in volleyball. All in all, those enrolled in our Physical Education Department have a lot of fun, es- pecially since the new ping-pong sets, badmin- ton sets, and Sllllffllflltllllftlli have been install- ed. All these plus such old favorites as basket- ball, touch football, folk dancing, volleyball, and softball tend to make these classes the most strenuous, if not the most intellectual, classes in our day. To all this add the fact that we have two swell directors, Nliss Lucilla Davitlson and Nlr. Fred Elmore, and you can easily see why these classes are such fun. XVell, since I have to play, tlubbies on be- ing first base. An exciting game of soccer. Playing a tough eleven- game schedule, the column briefly as they rode roughshod over 1950 version of the Hot Springs Trojans es- tablished an impressive record of 5 wins and 6 defeats. A warm night proved right for the Tro- jans' first game, and they swamped a highly- regarded Benton eleven, 24-6. In this game the score was 6-6 at the half: but the Trojans returned strong and behind the swivel-hipped running of Buddy jones, fleet half-back, they turned the game into a runaway. The next Friday the Trojans had little trouble in cool- ing off the Arkadelphia Badgers by a score of I2-0. This, however, was the beginning of a losing streak which extended two games. The touted El Dorado XVildcats had more trouble than they expected but managed to beat the game Trojans, 18-0. The ever-power- ful Little Rock Tigers buried the Spa aggre- gation, 46-T. The men of Troy broke back into the win the Fordyce Redbugs in the annual Homecom- ing tilt, 33-6. North Little Rock and Hope put a damper on Trojan conference hopes on successive week ends as they bested the Spa eleven, 7-2 and 33-12, respectively. It was late in the North Little Rock game, which was played in heavy rain and wind, that Joe Geurin, speedy half-back, broke away for a game-win- ning touchdown. This tally was called back, however, because of a heart-breaking off-sides penalty. The Trojans knocked off Jonesboro and Russellville in succession in a mighty display of power that showed their fighting spirit. The next week was a different story, however. The powerful Fort Smith Grizzlies were ready for the ever-eager Trojans, and these Bruins passed and ran over the Trojan team. XVhen Page 86 the final whistle blew, the Grizzlies had gained an impressive 53-0 victory. The next week on Turkey Day, the Tro- jans, still dazed from Fort Smit'h's display of power, were beaten by the Pine Bluff Zebras, 39- 0. This ended the regular season. Edward Spencer, junior guard, was placed on the All-State Eleven. Buddy jones and Pete Oliver grabbed spots on the third team and joe Geurin gained honorable mention. Under Coach joe Dildy's leadership for the second year, the Trojans played an inspired brand of football, and the students of Hot Springs High have every reason to be proud of them and their achievements.
