HISTORY On September 3, 1944, forty-nine freshmen boys and girls enrolled in Hor- tonville High School. After a few weeks had elapsed, we elected our class offic-' ers: President--Fred Krueger, Vice-Pres- ident--David Hunt, and Secretary-Trea- surer--Donna Jane Lenz. Our cheerleaders fortheyearwereKay Keefe, Lorna Flunker, and Donna Jane Lenz, alternate. The fol- lowing boys took part in basketball: William Bohman, Donald Diestler, Donald Schulz, Fred Krueger, and Eugene Collar. William Bohman and Corrine Scholl were chosen Best Boy and Best Girl Citizens for the year. Starting our Sophomore year the enrollment was forty-six members. We were sorry to lose George Grall, Alice Man- teufel, and Larry Miller, but we gained John Collar and Bridget Pulda. In a class meeting we elected our class officers: President--William Bohman, Vice-Pres- ident--Donald Schulz, and Secretary-Trea- surer--Corrine Scholl. Cheerleaders for the season were Kay Keefe, Lorna Flunker, and Corrine Scholl for alternate. Fred Krueger, Donald Schulz,andWilliam Bohman were on the 'A' squad. William Bohman reigned as King at the Homecoming Game on November 9th, MarJeau Schroeder was our only contribute in Forensics. Near the close of the year William Bohman was chosen as Best Boy Citizen and Corrine Scholl as Best Girl Citizen. When we returned as Juniors, we were happytoxnow that Genevieve Hoffmann and Jack Behnke had joined us. We were sorry to lose Eugene Collar, John Collar, Robert Fulcer, EricJack, Donna Jane Lenz, Dorothy Massingill, Aaron Pankow, Ardeen Riesenwerder, and Helen Strong. This.made it a class of forty-four members. The class officers were: President--Merlin Armitage,VicePresident--Wesley Armitage, and Secretary-Treasurer--Genevieve Hoff- mann. Our cheerleaders were Kay Keefe, Corrine Scholl, and Lorna Flunker, alter- natev Members of the 'A' Basketball squad were Richard Gitter,DonaldDiestler, Fred Krueger, Donald Schulz, and William Boh- man. Those on the 'B' squad were Merlin Armitage, Richard Gitter,DavidHunt, Fred Krueger, and Burton Lathrop. Those taking part in Forensics were Gloria Lemke, Gen- evieve Hoffmann, Corrine Scholl, MarJeau Schroeder, and Dorothy Weihing. Genevieve Hoffmann was eligible to go to Bnillion and Kimberly with an oratiou. MarJeau Schroeder was chosen as State Secretary for the F.H.A. Those in the play cast 'A Mad Breakfast' were Marceda Lueck, Kay Keefe, Lorna Flunker, Carolyn Frye, and Dorothy Weihing. Marceda Lueck and Lorna Flunker represented our class in the play 'Elmer'. Dorothy Weihing was selected from our class as Drum Majorette. The major event of the year was the Junior Prom, held April 24th, at the Community Hall. King Merlin Armitage and his Queen, Corrine Scholl, led the Grand march. The music was furnished by Braults Canadians and our theme was 'Blue Hawaii'. The Best Boy and Girl Citizen for the year were William Bohman and Genevieve Hoffmann On September 2, after a wonder- ful summer vacation, wereturned to finish the last year of high school days. We were sorry to learn that we lost Jack Behnke, Mary Dorschner, and Owen Krueger. Later we lost Dorothy Diestler and Rose Marie McMurdo, but were happy to welc me Shirlee Behnke and Marilyn Suttner, which made a class of 38 members. Soon after- wards we elected officers: President-- William Bohman, Vice-President--Richard Gitter, and Secretary-Treasurer--Bridget Pulda. Richard Gitter was elected Student Activity Manager and Genevieve Hoffmann, Student Activity Secretary. Our Contri-- butions to the One Act Play were Donald Schulz, Corrine Scholl, and Fred Krueger. Our cheerleaders for the season were Kay Keefe, Genevieve Hoffmann, and Corrine Scholl, alternate. During the basketball season we were very proud of William Bohman, Donald Diestler, Richard Gitter, David Hunt, Fred Krueger, Donald Schulz, all members of the 'A' squad, and Burton Lathrop as manager. Those representing our class inForensics were Lorna Flunker, William Harris, Kay Keefe, Herbert Keat- ing, Armond Lemke, Ruth Nelson, and Cor- rine Scholl. Kay Keefe and Herbert Keat- ing represented our class at the Little Nine Finals and at Kimberly. MarJeau Schroeder was elected asBest Girl Citizen for the D.A.R. Valedictorian of our class is Beverly Steffen, Salutatorian is Cor- rine Scholl. The next eight highest in order of their scholastic rating are: Dorothy Weihing, Ruth Nelson and Grace Zimmer, Richard GitterandGenevieve Hoff- mann, Armoud Lemke, and Merlin Armitage. Those that took part in the Senior Class Play, Spring Fever, were: Herbert Keat- ing, Armond Lemke, William Harris, Donald Diestler, Myron Tiedt, Bridget Pulda, MarJeau Schroeder, Marceda Lueck, Kay Keefe, Hulda Herzfeldt, and Gloria Lemke. Our class days drew to a close with both sadness and joy on the eventful day, Cam- mencement May 25. 1948. May our motto, Strive to Conquer the Unconquornble, ever guide us.
