Within a few weeks a class meeting was held at which Norman Hansen was elected president, John Collar, vice-president, and secretary-treasurer, Walmer Baehman. During the year we gained Merton Strong, Generose Broehm, and Charlotte Jensen. We were sorry to lose Eric Jack, Lester Warn- ing, Edward Collar, La Vern Manteufel, and later on Charlotte Jensen. Ruth Lueck and Norma Dornquast were chosen as the cheerleaders for the basketball season. Milton Collar, Norman Hansen, and Reginald Riedl were active in basketball during the season. Our representatives in forensics were Walmer Baehman, June Beschta, Audrey Burns, Norma Dornquast, Ethlyn Guyette, Carolyn Hertel, Ruth Lueck, Ramona Quinn, Rita Sommers, and Pearl Zimmer. Near the close of the year Ethlyn Guyette and Reginald Riedl were chosen best girl and boy citizen of the class. Upon returning to school after vacation we were sorry to learn that Rita Sommers, Eldren Young, and Norman Hansen had left us, but we were glad to receive Harland Schroeder, David Brehmer, Anna Mae Leipzig, Sylvester Larson, and Raymond Jandourek. Soon afterwards Reginald Riedl was elected president of the Sopho- more class, Marvin Wendell, vice president and Anna Mae Leipzig, Secretary-treasurer. Milton Collar was also elected president of the Boy's Athletic Association. Dur- ing the basketball season Milton Collar, Reginald Riedl, Norman Hansen, Clifford Braeger, and Carleton Schwebs were active and were members of the A and B squad. Audrey Burns was also very active in girls basketball. Cheerleaders for the season were Ruth Lueck, Norma Dornquast, and Donald Sipe. The one act play con- tribution was Reginald Riedl and Carleton Schwebs. Carol Hansen, Ethlyn Guyette, Audrey Burns, and Ruth Lueck were our forensic representatives during our Sopho- more year. Best girl citizen honors went to Ruth Lueck and best boy citizen honors went to Reginald Riedl. We were sorry to lose Norma Dornquast during the spring school session. Summer vacation was soon over and we returned to school to begin our Junior year. The class elected Harland Schroeder president, Marvin Wendell, vice- president, and Jean Schaenzer, secretary- treasurer for the year. Dorothy Burns, Eugene Gitter, Lester Gitter, Sylvester Larson and David Brehmer left us during our vacation. The army also took Raymond Jandourek fron among us. However George Martin became a good addition to our class. Carleton Schwebs, Milton Collar, Reginald Riedl, Jean Schaenzer, George Martin, Clifford Braeger and Harland Schroeder were active in basketball. They were active on either the HAH or HBH squad during the season. Ruth Lueck and Carol Hansen leadthe cheering during the season. As Juniors we contributed Carol Hansen, Anna Mae Leipzig, LeRoy Bungert, Harland Schroeder, and Reginald Riedl in the one act plays. As customary a Junior Prom was held with muxic by Larry Woodbury and his Orchestra. Reginald Riedl and Carol Hansen reigned as king and queen during the evening. Our forensic team con- sisted of Harland Schroeder, George Martin and Audrey Burns. George succeeded in get- ting to the state and Audrey succeeded in getting to the district meet at Kimberly. We were very proud of all of our forensic contestants. Best girl and boy citizen honors for the Junior year went to Anna Mae Leipzig and Reginald Riedl. Thenour Senior year rolled around and we began to realize that soon the'best years of our life would be over. Upon our return we learned of Marvin Wendell's en- listment in the navy. Other members who left our classwereRuth Nickelson and near the last of January, George Martin. How- ever we were glad to see Raymond Jandourek back with us about Christmas time. Harland Schroeder was Vale- dictorian of our class with Pearl Zimmer as Salutatorian. Proph cy Crystal Ball gazing has its re- wards. To those of us who wish to look into the future this type prognostication is far superior to consulting an oracle or present day fortune teller. With a cast of the future already firmly implanted in the mind, one can easily picture events to come, to a high degree of satisfaction. Let us gaze into the crystal ball and with the lives of the members of the class of '47 clearly distinguishable, we find much of interest. Not following the ordinary routine of graduating classes, where the members soon scatter in many different directions, this class decided to enter intact into the formation of a unit and form a unique settlement called No. '47. In the year of '67 we find the city of '47 a well established, thriving metropolis. Everything that makes for better living we find here. To begin with, it was well planned due to the meticulous care and foresight of IRAN SCHAENZER, who drew the plans, As we enter this model city we are impressed with the spacious streets. No parking worry and no traffic hazards. We are immediately confronted by a very impressive looking officer of the law who offers his good wishes and answers to the name of REGINALD RIEDL. As we goondowntnestreetthechatter of children at play are audible. The playground from which these sounds come is very extensive. More so than one usually finds in cities of this size. Our curiosity prompts us to walk over there and watch the children at play. The first group busy in a foot- ball scrimmage was masterfully coached by CLIFFORD BRAEGER. Beyond this was a drum and bugle corps ledby the maestro CARLETON SCHHEBS. Evidently this school also offer- ed R.O.T.C. trainingforimmediately beyond this group, General RAYMOND JANDOUREK was putting his cadets through a stiff drill. We now turned back to the school proper-- a very modern and artistic building. The office of CAROLIN HERTEL was to the im- mediate left and on entry we were met by her private secretary Miss RUTH LUECK. She most graciously consented to escort us through the main partof the school. ETHLYN GUYETTE was busy with her class in vocal music, while DOROTHY THERN was occupied with her group in designing. The history class was being taught all abouttheGreeks and Romans, and Huns and Tartars by pro- fessor LORIEN MANLEY. As there was so much else of value to be seen we had to cut short our visit to other classrooms and proceed on our journey. The next stop was at an inspiring edifice replete with the architecture of the renaissance, a place of worship. Here the lady pastor, PEARL ZIMMBR, led us into a parlor and in- troduced ns to JANE KUETTEL, one of her Sunday school teachers. Of course no city would be complete without a restau- rant and stopping for a bite to eat, the manager, CAROL WINKENWERDER, assured us that only the best of foods was served here. A theater across the street was that day featuring nMillion-Dollar Collard and UBlachie Quinnn. Better known to us MILTON COLLAR, and RAMONA QUINN. In the next bloc? we visited a manufacturing plant which made toys of all descriptions. The general'manager, LAWRENCE GITTER, was now travelling in a Rolls Royce so there was no need of thumbing a ride to the next town. A large sign FReduce in Comfortn aroused our curiosity and we proceeded to investigate. In the lobby we were met by, LESTER GIESEN, the owner, who immediately took us to the reducing proving grounds. Here LEROY BUNGERT was teaching ADDIE LOU LATHROP how to hold on to a balking horse so she could ride it and this way reduce. At this time a plane landed on the air- field and were surprised when we arrived on the field to see Senator HARLAND SCHROE- DER step out of the plane. He was just re- turningfrom astrenuous legislative session where he had done much to make the world safe for everybody. He was followed by the pilot, JAMES FOLEY, and the stewardess AUDREI BURNS. Several times members of our group commented on the beauty of the clean windows. It brought back memories of Hortonville High Schooldayswhen DONALD SIPE did likewise to the windows of the business establishmentsofour main street. While commenting on this whom else should we meet but the Sipe of old still putting the gloss on the glass. One more rather ritzy establishment was so outstanding in its appearance that we decided to visit it. Here we met more of our old class. LAVERNE DIESTLER was assigned to keep the place in a very respectable manner. This dancing school was in a place by itself. Here ballet dancing was taught under the supervision of GORDON BARDEN, while CAROL HANSEN had charge of the teaching of Ball- room dancing But no city is complete without a medical center, and our city of '47 has provided for the health of its people. Dr. WALMER BAEHMAN heads the Medical staff and ROBERT LOHRENZ attends to the various tooth aches. His dental laboratory is equipped to deal with all the dental problems of his fellow towns- men. Even unto providing a most efficient receptionist is the person of GENBROSE BROEHM. The only other member of the class of '47 not yet contacted was ANNA MAE LEIPZIG. Further Inquiry gave us the information that her office wasom the 13th floorofthe administration building locat- ed at 1313-13th street. We immediately turned our attention toward a trip there. The elevator took us to the required floor and were told the number of her office was No. 13. Upon entering the room we im- mediately recognized Anna Mae of the class of '47 busy taking care of the dusty archives inwhich were recorded the lives and activities of all the members of the class of '47 of Hortonville High School. W' I I I Having spent four strenuous yearsin Hortonville High School, in which we gained an unlimited amount of knowledge, we, the members of the Senior Class of 1947, being of sound mind and weak heart, do hereby declare this to be our last will and testament. To the Juniors we will our seats in the assembly and our books, may they use them as profitably as we did. To the Sophomoreswewill anything they can make useofduring their years ahead. To the Freshmen we will the fun of ruling over next years class. To the faculty we leave the school in a rather deranged state, that they may have the fun of putting it back together again. CLIFFORD BRAEGER wills WThe Voicen to Joseph Hoffmann. AUDREY BURNS wills her technique of turning cartwheels to her sister Marjorie. ADDIE LOU LATHROP and JANE KUETTELwi1l their ability to giggle to Jean Watson and Joyce Moder HARLAND SCH OEDER passes on his ability to remember, to anyone who has difficulty in re- membering assignments. The costumes were really something and so was the way the Band performed. After the parade everyone rushed inside hoping to find seats for the main show. First the prizes for the best costumes were given. Then all sat back to enjoy the best one act play in years. The students really put 'Elmeru over big. After the play the floor was quickly cleared and the stands set hp. That huge crowd really kept everyone at the stands busy. Pitch Till U Win, Noisemakers, Dartball, yes, these were but a few of the many attractions. Even the fellows in the boxing bouts seem- ed to enjoy themselves. And for the spectators there were thrills aplenty in the fast Fights. Movies? Where? Why, downstairs of course. Alas, but on the way we simply had to try our luck on the HNigger Dollsn. After the movies it was but a step to the NWitches Innn where you could eat to your hearts content. During the evening, door prizes were awarded to the lucky ones whose names were drawn. Due to increased ex- penses, the Carnival did not show quite as large a net profit as some others, yet the school realized a net gain of about 5380. Each year some school project benefits from the proceeds of our annual Carnival. Were you at our All School Party? It was really a gala affair! The first thing on the program was a little skit which near- ly put us in stitches. Jean Schaenzer was gruesomely disected by Norman Hanson and John Cuinn. It is remarkable how he survived. This was followed by two more skits, a duet by Audrey Burns and John Collar, a vocal solo by Ethlyn Guyette, the reading of appropriate song titles for various members of the student body and faculty, and an imitation of Spike Jones' Orchestra with Norman Hanson directing and John Quinn as vocalist. Then we all joined in community singing. Next came a series of games in which the entire student body participated. When the games were finished we all danced. To our surprise we found that we had been visited by a very high class orchestra which played the uFlying Dutchmenn and several other pieces. Hungry as we were, it was a big treat to help ourselves to the pop, ice cream, and cake which the committee had prepared for us. After a fun packed evening everyone agreed that our party was a big success. Christmas 1 On Santa's long trip around the world he didn't forget to stop off at our Christ- mas Party which was held in the hall December 16. As the students entered the hall they were surprised to see how beautiful Santa's helper had decorated the hall. A program which everyone enjoyed provided the main part of the evenings entertainment. After the program the girls and a few of the bravest boys danced. The biggest event of the evening was when Santa came and gave out the presents. After the proper amount of oh's, ah's and thank you's had been said we all filed down to the basement for a delicious lunch of hot dogs, cupcakes, ice cream, and pop. And so ends the Christmas Party. Picn'c On May 28, we all celebrated the day that really meant the end of school for another year. At ten o'clock you could see groups of students carrying either potato salad, beans, jello, or whatever they were contributing for our picnic. which was held at the fair grounds. Baseball was played with the classes competing against each other. Those who did not like baseball could spend their time dancing. There was food enough for all and some even got second helpings. Late in the afternoon we all said good-bye to our friends some of whom we might B01 see until next year. JU ICR PROM Q .165 9 3 ,ikigii .455 as W Soft music, low lights and dancing---this was the Junior Prom. It was held Thursday evening, April 21 and the music was furnished by Brault's Canadians. The King, Merlin Armitage, and his Queen, Corrine Scholl, reigned over a group of happy dancers, amidst the setting 'Blue Hawaii. The hall was decorated accordingly. The sky was of blue streamers with hundreds of tiny stars peeking through. At the rear of the hall there was a Hawaiian Paradise and a Lagoon. Everyone had a wonderful evening. This is what we usually hear from our student body about 10:00 o'clock every morning when those appetizing odors float up from the hot lunch room. We started our hot lunch program in November, 1946. About one-hundred seventy grade -nd high school students are served each day. We owe a debt of gratitude to our cooks, Mrs. Esther Heftel and Mrs. Edwin Gitter, who served us a well planned meal each day. Q ' i f A 1 f. ' 3 , . W Q fx N11 4 Y 'x . Seated: Carleton Schwebs, Milton Collar, Donald Schulz, William Bohman, Reginald Riedl. Milton Collar--As Co-Captain and guard Mickie led Hortonville through many tough battles. His outstanding floor play and passes in the Casco game at the District Tourna- ment were instrunental in the teams success under the hoop. Reginald Piedl--As Co-Captain and playing a forward position, Reg was in the game fighting for the Bears right to the end. In a great scoring splurge with pushshots from the side, Reg led the team to victory over Hilbert. Carleton Schwebs--We'll always remember Carlie as the hero of the Freedom game at the District Tournament. With two minutes to play and all hopes lost, Carlie swished a long one-hander from the side, followed by another shot a few seconds later. He played forward for the bears. hilliam Bohman--Nearly sending the crowd into hysterics, Billled the wellbalanced attack against Shiocton. He played his guard position well. Donald Schulz--As the Polar Bear's center, Schulz put no limit on his scoring as he came through with twenty-two points at Bear Creek. Donnie is knownas Hortonvi1le's pivot ace. John Quinn--Going up for rebound efforts, and rolling in short shots, John shone as the star for the Bears in the Elimination game over Gillett. John takes his position on the team at center. Credit comes where credit is due, and of course credit must be given to the subs: Donald Diestler, Fred Krueger, James Gauthier, and Richard Gitterg and Managerl Jean Schaenzerg for they help make up the team of which everyone of us are truly proud. That's what our Pep Club sounded like at the basketball games this year. There were forty-three members who were all full of pep and vigor. Cheerleaders: Ruth Lueck, Audrey Burns, Kay Keefe, and Corrine Scholl were at the head of the club. Betty Yansen, Joann Lippold, Joan Olk, and Marjorie Burns, cheer- ed for the HBH team. They all did a wonderful job in boosting the moral of the boys. Because of the large number of members the school bus was used to take them to all of the out-of-town games. The club did such an excellent piece of work this year that we all hope it will be continued again next year. ff fs, 7 iv! . v, -.5 2 V ,a -.,,. . y '.a:If? ' KN C, 1 . Pep Band -1'K- A..
